Fun, uptempo, and danceable bluegrass band featuring mandolin, standup bass, flatpicking guitar, fiddle, and banjo, plus lots of old-time harmony singing.
Or, in New Orleans party mode, we're trumpet, trombone, standup bass, resonator guitar, and singing.
Can easily play outdoors without any electricity, or can bring our own professional-quality PA and equipment.
We love special occasions like Mardi Gras and Christmas.
We really enjoyed "Joy Drops" at our community event. With our crowd spread out volume was an issue and as much as most of us really enjoyed them, a few people wish they had more vocals in the mix. We would recommend them. They where professional, fun guys! The only reason we didn't give them 5 stars is because of volume.
Response from The Joy Drops:
Colleen, it was great to meet you. The party had a really good spirit and we enjoyed playing.
After the second song someone mentioned that we were too quiet, so we turned up. But I'm worried that the comments you heard were right at the beginning. Thanks again for having us!
We really enjoyed having the Joy Drops recently play at our backyard birthday party. They were very responsive to questions and easy to correspond with leading up the the party. They did everything we asked and sounded great! All the guests enjoyed the vibe. We hope to have them play one of our parties again!
The Joy Drops played at our wedding reception, filling the garden with joy and delight. Their dynamics were superb and tempo upbeat. They were sensitive to our needs and played special songs for the first dance, etc. Excellent singing! Feedback from our guests included that the band was the best part of our reception! We would definitely invite them back for another event!
My wife and I really loved the Joy Drops at our wedding reception. They created fun and joyful atmosphere. They played "Some Where Over the Rainbow" and "It's a Wonderful World" for the father daughter dance and mother son dance and it was really wonderful. All our guest really enjoyed the music and received lots of compliments throughout the night. Thank you!
Gig salad website was easy to search and book entertainment. I requested an individual musician and a member of Joy Drops was happy to oblige. Lucas was wonderful and the entire booking process was seamless.
My fiancé (now wife) was a little dubious at first when I suggested a bluegrass band for our wedding, but now counts The Joy Drops as one of the highlights of the occasion.
The Ceremony: The band performed an acoustic set as guests were arriving and getting seated. It really set the tone, both a relaxed and generally non-traditional feeling as it wasn't the usual cello or string quartet, but the band is SO GOOD it maintained the tasteful and thoughtful atmosphere we strove to create. The band then played instrumental versions of our favorite bluegrass standards for the processional and recessional.
Cocktail hour: This is where the band really was amazing. They were so tight (great musicians) and played a great selection of songs. They were acoustic here, and the perfect volume for an outdoor gathering to help create a fantastic celebratory atmosphere without overwhelming the setting.
Important to note: We got more compliments about the band than almost any other feature of the wedding. It really just brought everything together.
Other details: Great communication, very professional, easy to work with etc. Would definitely book them again for a party, corporate party, wedding, wine party, outdoor party. You name it!
Response from The Joy Drops:
Andrew, thank you so much for having us. We were honored. I loved the soundscape and the light in that beautiful spot in the woods where the ceremony was. It was perfect for us, and we had a great time playing.
We recently hosted a Very Merry Bluegrass Christmas party for about 50 people at our home - it was a great party but what really took it to the next level was the amazing Joy Drops. They were on time, nicely dressed and fully prepared. Their music really cannot be beat - our guests were really impressed and just had the best time ever!
I will definitely be hiring them again for any future parties and highly recommend them!!
We loves having The Joy Drops at our wedding. Correspondence was wonderful, and they even learned two songs for us. At the last minute, there was a problem with the fiddle player, and they searched high and low to make sure that they could replace him. Very accommodating and definitely someone you can trust. And their sound speaks for itself!
We hired these lovely people for my son's 1st birthday and they were not only perfect for all ages but were adaptable to the outdoor situation without plugs (they went acoustic, which was exactly the sound I was looking for). Their sound was not overwhelming but a perfect balance for the 30-40 people party in the park. I can imagine with amplifiers they would be great for larger crowds too. They also sang some kids songs which was fun for everyone! If you like this kind of music they are even better in person! We enjoyed them so much that my husband and I were asking for recorded music so we could listen at home.
The band was very responsive to our requests and worked with us on every aspect of our song choices and blocking (where to go during the ceremony/reception of our wedding). Lucas is also very friendly. The music was AMAZING, and they thought quickly on their feet—when they realized that where we put them wasn't ideal, they moved to a much better location. Only reason it's not 5 stars is that they didn't arrive or start on time (they started 15 minutes late but didn't miss the ceremony), didn't tell us they were running behind, and didn't answer the phone when I called. Even with all that, they were still a fantastic band and you should definitely hire them.
Response from The Joy Drops:
Thanks for having us, Laurel. We had a great time playing, especially doing the bass band 2nd line from the ceremony to the reception.
I apologize for the timing mess-up. When I prepared my timetable I made a mistake, so we were at the reception location when you intended for music to be going at the schoolhouse.
Congratulations once again to you and Josh. We were honored.
We hired The Joy Drops for our wedding on July 30th in Guinda, CA. Despite our wedding being delayed for an hour and a half as well as the wedding site being hotter than the face of the sun, these guys remained very understanding and extremely professional.
Music-wise, The Joy Drops have exceeded our expectations 10-fold, and we enjoyed every drop of their performance. (See what I did there? lol)
Lucas (the band leader) is a kind individual, and we found it easy to negotiate contract with him. We really hope to cross paths with Lucas and his group again.
In short: You'll be truly blessed to have this group perform for your event. Hire them.
Response from The Joy Drops:
Thank you so much for this warm review. It was an honor playing for your and Paul's wedding. I wish you the best.
The Joy Drops did an outstanding job at our company holiday party. Lucas was extremely responsive and accommodating throughout the planning process. The band arrived nice and early and were all set up and ready to go by the start of the party. The music was fun and lively and he checked in during the party to see how it was going (if we wanted it louder/softer, etc.) Everyone at the party really thought it added to the atmosphere and that the music was great. I would definitely book them again for an event in the future.
Everyone enjoyed the background music for the company event. The music was really enjoyable. Although when all of the people were at the event and talking, the music needed to be amplified. And is was with the help of Grifols assistance.
Response from The Joy Drops:
We had a great time playing at Grifols. Thanks for having us.
I agree that it turned out amplification was necessary, and it was lucky that you had a PA available. My plan for the future is to bring equipment just in case and leave it in the car.
What to Expect
We're there bright and early to set up. Motto: "if you're not early, you're late."
Our equipment is in good condition, and we'll have plenty of extras like extension gears just to be absolutely sure things will go smoothly.
We'll play a good blend of instrumentals and vocal numbers, with a balance of tempos, and well paced through to a high energy finish.
We'll take care to get the volume right, and to fill the space without drowning out conversation. If you have any requests such as a toast or more danceable tunes, we'll be in close touch with you.
When everything is done, we'll break down quickly and efficiently.
Old time acoustic Americana that's fun, earthy and unique:
∙ Let the good times roll. Our music is uptempo and joyful.
∙ Traditional sounds make a great vibe for your event. We play bluegrass, old time and early blues.
∙ We freshen up our tradiitional sounds with ragtime, merry-go-round tunes, and a little influence from New Orleans brass bands.
Standup bass, mandolin, and acoustic guitar/trumpet, sometimes augmented with fiddle.
Great for barbecues, events, weddings and more:we can play just instrumentals, we can do sweet tunes for romance, we deliver a solid swing for dancers.
"We have the Joy Drops perform at our art and fashion markets as often as they are available. They really know how to create a feel-good vibe and keep our attendees happy and smiling while they shop from local vendors, play with their kids, make new friends, relax on the grass, or dance around. Beautiful music and a highly recommended professional band."
Danielle C. - Urban Air Markets
"The Joy Drops brought a classy and fun vibe to my wedding day ! I can't recommend them enough. The music is top notch and the boys in the band are professional and accomplished musicians. They kept the dance floor jumping!"
Justin C. - Happily Married Man
