Loosely Strung is crisp, close vocals and harmonies blended with a 5-string banjo, rhythm guitar, lap steel, mandolin, harmonica, steel-top resonator guitar, and an upright bass. We play acoustically or with full amplification. You'll recognize many of the tunes we play...country and traditional bluegrass tunes, old standards, a little gospel, a few golden oldies, folk, blues, and more.... all in a bluegrass style. We play for square dances, too. We can provide a fun, high energy, musical experience, low-keyed, relaxing musical background, or a great blend of the two. You'll find us playing community concerts, fairs, parties, receptions, etc. We may be perfect for your event.
Wonderful Music, Very Professional!
Loosely Strung performed at our corporate luncheon and they were amazing! Not only was their music perfect for our event but as a group they are also exceptionally professional and very easy to work with! Their music helped to create a relaxed and fun atmosphere and we received nothing but great feedback from our employees. Thank you so much Loosely Strung!!!
Tight crisp harmonies blend with clear solid instrumentals. Our playlist includes everything from traditional bluegrass to rock & roll, blues, old standards, and some originals played in a bluegrass style. We play a lot and talk a little. We keep our personal politics away from our music and give you a clean upbeat performance.
We have a sound system that can accommodate most settings. We start on time and always try to give the audience a little more.
Additional Booking Notes
We require one electrical outlet with household current. We generally use 4 vocal mikes, 3 instrument mikes, and 5-6 plug ins.
Loosely Strung started playing together as a band sometime in early 2001 or 2002...can't really remember...we just evolved. We enjoy playing for good friends, good causes, (and good food), and other interesting events -- anywhere good pickin’ and good harmony are welcomed. The Cheshire Market, Pizza and Bait Shop in Galena is one of our favorites. You can find us there at least once a month except in the summer when we're playing at farmers markets, parties, and community concerts.
When we're not playing together as a band you can often find one or more of the Loosely Strung band jamming with friends (folks willing to play and sing with us)somewhere in the Columbus area at one or more of the various jam sessions. Check our schedule to see where we're are going to be other times (so you can stop by and enjoy our music).
In late 2005, playing for square dances to was added to the list of options. Ted, with at least thirty years experience playing banjo and bass in Gene Parson's square dance band, Heritage, provides the technical musical guidance. Betty Wingerter, experienced square dance instructor and caller from the Dayton area, is our caller.
Our music backgrounds include family music, square dance band, jug band, song leading, gospel group, rock and roll garage band, and a blues group. You'll occasionally catch a tune or two we've carried forward to what is now part of Loosely Strung's eclectic and ever-growing playlist. Ted Christy, Dan Epley, Dean Gledhill, Jackie LaMuth (and sometimes Betty Wingerter) are Loosely Strung.
