Her style is EXPLOSIVE! Sexy spitfire Ma Vishus tears up rap tracks with a lyrical blowtorch, blazing passion for the hip-hop game. Born in Trinidad (in the West Indies), she heats up rhymes with a sound reminiscent of the Caribbean, with the urgency of a dancehall beat. One vile taste of her powerful delivery and you'll see that Ma Vishus earns her menacing name on every track.
She's been in the trenches for over 10 years, inspired both by her cousin, Spliff Star, of Busta Rhymes' Flip Mode Squad, and a handful of female hip-hop artists that paved the way (i.e. Roxanne Shante, and Lauryn Hill, to name a couple). Her debut single "Hip Hop Anthem" pays homage to the hip-hop forefathers and movement as a whole. But don't get it twisted. This diminutive queen tempts you with talent, and then almost seems to hypnotize you with her melodic flow. "I'm like a cold chill on a hot summer night: sounds wild, but it's simple really, My sound is what's NOT expected when you take a look at me,.. it's kind of ironic that I'm NOT like any feme-cee you've ever heard because I'm sure looking at me, that's what one would expect, the norm,.. my style in one word, I'd say is 'Refreshing," she says. "I channel my aggressions into my music but it's in no way angry or sad."
Ma Vishus does not aim to impress; she's storming the rap scene and taking what's rightfully hers, writing rhymes that exudes feminine power and demands attention. "Your content, I think, should come from all that you've been through," she says. "I'm not selling sex; that's not me, promoting my look, though that was once my thing (modeling), right now, I'm about this music and the movement. I'm staking my place in this game with music that all people can relate to. It's back to the basics or it's about to be. Where you'll have to rely on your skills." She's shown and proved at the Refugee Camp label however, that relationship eventually dissolved prior to her debut.
But this dynamite master of verse is armed with endless rounds of ammo. She makes beats, sings, pens poetry, freestyle/hip-hop dances, and has been freelance modeling since 1994. "I am going to focus on one thing at a time for now though, and right now it's my music," she says. "But I'm fighting for the top spot this time, and it's VACANT for a female emcee like me. that's why it's still all 'by any means necessary'."
