Why hire Cello Quartet?
The Cello Quartet was founded in 2008 as a part of the Maxwell H. Gluck Music Outreach Program. As a part of the Gluck Foundation, the Cello Quartet has performed numerous concerts throughout the greater Los Angeles area including retirement homes, convalescent hospitals, local schools, and libraries. Cellists Christopher Ahn, Jennifer Li, Hillary Smith, and Bryan West all studied with Professor Antonio Lysy at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music.

About
A native of Los Angeles, Christopher Ahn has presented solo, chamber music and orchestral performances extensively across the U.S. as well as abroad in Europe, Australia, South Korea, South Africa, Canada and Central America. Recent performances have included live radio broadcasts on the Sundays Live recital series at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, performances with the UCLA Virtuosi on the Music Guild and Dilijan concert series, numerous chamber music and orchestral concerts throughout Los Angeles, as well as concerts and tours in Michigan, Maine, New York, Arizona, and abroad in Canada, Panama and El Salvador.
Chris has had the opportunity to attend summer programs at the Meadowmount School, Aspen Music Festival, Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, and the Banff Centre Masterclasses. Chris received his Bachelor of Arts with Honors from UCLA and Master of Music degree from the University of Michigan, with additional graduate work at the Cleveland Institute of Music. Currently, he is working towards the Doctor of Musical Arts degree at UCLA. His principal teachers have included Antonio Lysy, Richard Aaron, Stephen Geber, and Colin Carr.
Jennifer Li began studying cello at the age of eight. She is a prize-winner of many competitions throughout Southern California, including the 2010 Atwater Kent All-Star Competition, in which she performed David Popper’s Requiem for 3 Cellos and Orchestra with UCLA Philharmonia. She is the former principal cellist of the Orchestra Da Camera at the Colburn School of Performing Arts, the Olympia Youth Philharmonic, and most recently the Idyllwild Festival Orchestra. In 2008, she was appointed Assistant Principal of the Young Musicians Foundation Debut Orchestra and is currently a member of the UCLA Philharmonia.
Jennifer has also taken part in the YMF Chamber Music Series, LACMA Sunday’s Live! Concert Series, the Beverly Hills International Music Festival, the ENCORE School for Strings, the Bowdoin International Music Festival, the Idyllwild Arts Summer Festival, the UCLA Chancellor’s Residence Chamber Music Series, and the 2010 Musica Angelica Master Class Series. Born in Los Angeles, Hillary Smith began her cello studies at the age of six with Rachael Lonergan. In addition to being a member of both the UCLA Philharmonia and the American Youth Symphony, Hillary was a winner of the UCLA Atwater Kent All-Star Competition last year, giving her the opportunity to perform as a soloist with the UCLA Philharmonia. Currently studying with Antonio Lysy as a cello performance major in the undergraduate program at UCLA, Hillary will be graduating with honors this Spring.
Bryan West is a recent graduate of the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, where he studied cello performance with Antonio Lysy and Music Composition with Mark Carlson, Paul Chihara, Ian Krouse, and David Lefkowitz. He plans to specialize in baroque cello and historical performance.
