    The NYC String Quartet played at my mother's funeral, a full Catholic Mass. The music was out of this world-- so beautiful and it made the service incredibly special. The "Ave Maria" in particular was stunning; the violinist can be seen on Louis C.K.'s show "Louie" in a season 2 episode playing a subway violinist, and the NYC based group has played music for The Letterman show, among others. The NYC String Quartet was able to quickly prepare within an incredibly short timeline (the musical pieces and hymns were only locked in the night before). The quartet played alone and also played along with the church's organist and Mezzo-Soprano cantor, and were able to easily compliment the sung parts of the mass. They have an ability to improvise as an ensemble which greatly helps for the timing of music at an event. They also have a repertory of all the standard great classical pieces, plus many unknown ones for true classical music lovers, and they also play tango, and contemporary, and can play any music you want (we were able to request certain folk tunes for the mass too). The NYC String Quartet also played at the reception following the funeral, and they played at the perfect volume; the music never intruded on people's ability to have meaningful conversations, and provided wonderful ambience for the gathering. In preparing for the event, Kenny (who plays viola in the quartet and was also the contact person) was extremely communicative and always reachable through gig salad, email, phone and text. He sent me examples of different musical pieces to help me make my choices of what my family wanted them to play during the event. That was especially helpful to the success of the event; the music was incredibly moving and was a beautiful tribute to a woman who loved classical music, however The NYC String Quartet would be the perfect choice for any event (and I understand they do many weddings).
