About to give my first talk, I watched as the audience froze with anticipation. As I looked around the room, I couldn't help but notice everyone staring - nobody blinked. My notes within reach on the blue leather podium below me and a nervous smile peering across my face. "You can do this" I reminded myself, right before opening my mouth to speak.
When I was done, nobody clapped.
Nobody cheered.
No one came to shake my hand.
I felt all alone.
I have to keep reminding myself that I was only 5 years old and my audience was made of stuffed animals!
My first podium was just a small blue rocking chair flipped upside down. That is where it all started. I believe that God created me to connect with people and inspire them to action. Speaking is just one of the ways I have been privileged to do that. My dad was a key influence for me to pursue a career in Christian leadership. I believe it was his death at 47 years old that became the catalyst for me to fully embrace what I was made to do. Walk in light and lead others to do the same.
I grew up leading groups on and off stage. All through school, starting in 5th grade, I was given opportunities to lead others, primarily in church settings, (real people this time) and it energized me. Shortly after graduating high school, I began stepping into more staff role positions at church. With nearly a decade of experience leading both on and off stage, 6 of which were at the largest church in North America, I have gained valuable experience and insights that I love to walk through with others.
Since development is never done, I always look forward to serving and learning from those I speak with.
