The Jazz Misfits

The Jazz Misfits like to think we can take any tune, from classical to rock, and transform it into our own unique sound. We play the great jazz standards as well as The Beatles and Bacharach. TV and movie themes are some of our favorites including several of the great jazz theme songs from cartoons and comedies of the past. Every selection is arranged specifically for the band and you'll even hear a Jazz Misfits original from time to time. In fact, our new album, A Spot of Blue, is made up of all original tunes. 13 tracks offer a wide variety of styles to choose from. Give them a listen and let us know what you think.

The Jazz Misfits was founded in 2012 by trumpeter and bandleader Brent Irwin. Originally
a quintet, including trumpet, trombone and rhythm section, the band focused on jazz standards and explored TV and movie themes. The group enjoyed taking any tune, from classical to rock, and transforming it into jazz. They played swing and Latin standards as well as The Beatles and Bacharach. TV and movie tunes were some of their favorites including several of the great jazz themes from cartoons and comedies of the past.

In 2016 the addition of alto sax proved to be a pivotal moment for the band as it offered the opportunity to write richer, more complicated harmonies for the horn section. Latin tunes soon were filling up the book as well as more original charts. Recently the band has been playing more rock, pop and funk. The Jazz Misfits continued to grow musically as a group and as individual players.

If you have a piano and/or drum set, we would be happy to use them. But typically we bring and use our own equipment.
