About

Jesse Burdick & The Auld Country is a dynamic bluegrass ensemble based in Smithfield, Virginia. Founded by banjo player and vocalist Jesse Burdick, the band brings together a rotating cast of nationally and internationally acclaimed musicians, creating a distinctive blend of traditional, contemporary, and original bluegrass sounds.

The band's inception traces back to a serendipitous meeting between Burdick and multi-instrumentalist Geddy Miller at the Jenny Brook Bluegrass Festival in Tunbridge, Vermont. Their collaboration at the Galax Old Fiddler’s Convention in Virginia sparked the idea for The Auld Country—a collective of friends united by their passion for bluegrass music. This vision materialized in 2022 when Burdick, Miller, mandolinist Nick Beato, and bassist Dave Gooding debuted as a quartet at the IBMA World of Bluegrass Festival in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The band now features an eclectic mix of players in addition to the original lineup including Wade Gibbs (Upright Bass, East Coast) and Roger Gray (Fiddle, East Coast).

The band's name, "The Auld Country," pays homage to the traditional roots of bluegrass while reflecting their innovative approach to the genre. Their music is characterized by a commitment to artistic expression, moving beyond the conventional to offer fresh interpretations of bluegrass standards and original compositions.

Under the umbrella of Riverside Studios LLC, a company founded by Burdick, The Auld Country operates with a high degree of transparency and professionalism, ensuring fair compensation and clear communication among all members. This structure allows the band to maintain artistic integrity while fostering a collaborative environment for its diverse lineup of musicians.

Whether performing live, streaming, or recording, Jesse Burdick & The Auld Country offers an adventurous and authentic bluegrass experience, appealing to both traditional enthusiasts and new listeners alike.
