About

Mark Renburke is an American singer, songwriter, guitarist, and Irish folk performer whose career has spanned power-pop, roots rock, and traditional Celtic music. After leading the Washington, D.C.–based power-pop trio The Hooks in the early 1990s, he relocated to Japan in 1994, where he launched a solo career and released his debut album In Touch in 1995, and later a follow-up self-titled album in 2005.

While living in Japan, Renburke co-founded the Irish folk-rock band The Rising Pints with Irish singer-songwriter Brian Cullen. The group blended traditional Irish music with contemporary folk and rock influences, releasing several albums and building a following among both expatriate and Japanese audiences. The Rising Pints continue to release new music from their upcoming album Fourth, perform live with dates in Japan in 2025 and 2026, and in May of that year premiered the documentary “Rise Up Your Pints! - The Story of The Rising Pints” which is available to watch on YouTube. The film soundtrack, which is also a 30th anniversary edition of remastered and remixed recordings from the band’s early years was released in June 2026.

Returning to the United States in the late 1990s, Renburke continued performing and recording as a solo act, while deepening his involvement in Irish and Celtic music. He became known throughout southern New England for his engaging pub-style performances, strong audience connection, and dedication to preserving and promoting Irish musical traditions. He has performed extensively with groups including Renburke’s Rovers, presenting a repertoire that ranges from traditional ballads and drinking songs to contemporary Irish and American favorites.

Beyond live performance, Renburke has worked as a songwriter, recording artist, promoter, filmmaker and cultural ambassador for Irish music. His career reflects a unique journey from American power-pop to international folk-rock and ultimately to becoming a respected figure in the New England Irish music community, where he continues to celebrate the stories, songs, and spirit of Ireland and America through live performance, recording and collaboration with other artists.
