What to expect

Depending on the event, I can offer an intimate 'house concert' experience where I share insights about the music or provide elegant background music to enhance the ambiance. I also adapt to the volume and speed of the music to match the guests' energy, ensuring the music complements and elevates the atmosphere.

About

"For me, silence isn't a lack of sound but a blank canvas to be filled with the expressive colours of music.

My love for music started way back when I was 5 years old, and my kindergarten teacher used to sing and strum the guitar while teaching; it was pure magic! Growing up as a first-generation Canadian and learning English came with its own set of challenges. It was through these lessons with my kindergarten teacher that I was able to learn English, develop friendships, and begin looking forward to going to school. Looking back, I can see that my passion for music, mainly playing the guitar, really blossomed because of music’s ability to express emotions, tell stories, and convey ideas in a way that transcends language barriers."

Razvan Bezna (Raz Bezna) is a dynamic, inspirational, and technically impressive guitarist known for his passion for music and ability to connect with audiences. He has performed concerts in Canada, the United States, and Romania. Razvan has collaborated with Canadian non-guitarist composers who have dedicated several works to him. These include The Leprechaun Suite (1975) and Macaws Cawling (2023) for solo guitar by Sylvia Rickard (b.1937) and The Espania Concerto by Anne Lauber (b.1941). In working with non-guitarist composers, Razvan hopes that more non-guitarist composers will be inspired to compose for the instrument and expand the classical guitar repertoire. Currently based out of Montreal, Raz teaches privately and at three different schools in the Montreal area.

Razvan holds a Bachelor of Music Degree in Classical Guitar Performance from the University of Texas at Austin, where he studied under Professor Adam Holzman. In 2020, Razvan completed a Master of Music Degree in Classical Guitar Performance at Florida State University under the direction of Professor Bruce Holzman. Razvan completed a Doctor of Music degree under the supervision of Patrick Kearney at McGill University in 2024. Scholarships to study at these schools meant that Razvan also furthered his studies in masterclasses with masters of the classical guitar. These include Pepe Romero, Roland Dyens, Celil Refik Kaya, Jerome Ducharme, Jeffrey McFadden, Marcin Dylla, David Russell, Jorge Caballero, The Amadeus Duo, The Beijing Guitar Duo and others.

Razvan’s accomplishments include a nomination to represent the Province of British Columbia at the National Performing Arts Festival in Kelowna in 2014, The Sarah and Ernest Butler Excellence Scholarship in Music, and Graduate Excellence Scholarships to study at Florida State University and McGill University. Razvan is also part of the NWSE duo. In 2019, the NWSE Duo was awarded 1st prize in the adult ensemble division at the International Southern Guitar Festival and 2nd prize at the Houston International Guitar Competition. That same year, Razvan had the opportunity to rehearse with Wenxin Li and perform her “Song of Wind” at the Biennial Festival of New Music at Florida State University.

For background music, I would need access to a power source to plug in an amp!
