I saw Linda and the Cosmopolitans recently at the Edgewater Beach Hotel in Chicago and loved it! I am no jazz expert, but I knew most of their repertoire. The lovely Linda has a great voice and good rapport with her band. Its a great way to spend an evening whether you are having dinner or an after-dinner drink.

Linda sings from the heart.

By Jack D. on January 29, 2012

"She's a cool, sophisticated, and a gifted performer. Linda sings like an exotic bird and presents her material in the grand tradition of a sultry night club cabaret. Support Linda by enjoying an evening of song and romance. You won't leave before the encore!"

Standards offered with pathos, sexuality, and grace

By Anthony N. on January 28, 2012

Ms. Solotaire serves songs--mostly standards, with some contemporary and new work thrown in (the last which we hope to hear more of)--as if she were serving you a beautiful meal she had made, in which the complements are as luscious as the main dish--while remaining complements. I am writing of the underlying interplay of feeling in the songs, which Ms. Solotaire brings out with her voice, her phrasing, her expressions, her grace at the microphone. When there is happiness in a song, there is also a beautiful sort of loss. When there is loss, the person is still there, somewhere. If you are a child, she is a good fairy; if a man, she is a lover whose longing and desire you could cure if everything were different; if you are a woman, she is offering you the deepest feelings and ironies you could experience. Come just to listen to her over-the-top vulnerable performance of "Come Rain or Come Shine."

Overview

Whether you book Linda Solotaire as a soloist, duo or ensemble of any size, you can be sure of warm, friendly, experienced professionals showing up on time, prepared, dressed appropriately and ready to charm your guests.

A typical performance may start with an instrumental. Linda would follow that with a fun light opening song, introduce the band and acknowledge the hosts. The band's set can be crafted to engage the audience, or to fall back - creating an upbeat sonic backdrop for your event. For longer events the ensemble would break every 45 minute to an hour - for 10-15 minutes.

Linda is a trained actress and experienced Emcee - experienced in intimate cabaret performance - and just as comfortable in a huge stadium. Her performances have been critically acclaimed, and the musicians she chooses to work with are of the highest caliber. She is adaptable and a quick study, and will do what it takes to make your event a seamless success.

Bio

Linda Solotaire is a jazz vocalist and leader with The Linda Solotaire Quartet. She also performs an eclectic repertoire as duos with guitarist/composers Donovan Mixon, Stu Greenspan and James Cornolo.

In addition to her repertoire of classic standards, Linda has developed a Speakeasy show featuring jazz from the early 1900's, and "Dreams of You, the Sun, the Moon and Johnny Mercer" - embracing the dreamy world of one of America’s finest lyricists, Johnny Mercer. Her latest project is called “Ange Bleu” in which, along with her collaborator, violinist James Sanders, she is exploring European jazz cabaret - especially the music of Jacques Brel, and repertoire that vocalist like Marlene Dietrich made popular in the 50’s and 60’s. The final project will include original music as well, with unexpected instrumentation.

In addition to her work as a vocal artist, Linda is band leader, art maker, writer/poet and live performance producer/curator. A creative professional, she has expertise across a wide range of media, including theater, dance, sound, visual arts, digital arts, video, and other performance arts. Linda studied voice, music, dance and acting with notable teachers including, for acting, William Hickey at HB Studio in NYC, and voice with Typhanie Monique & Carol Loverde in Chicago. She received her BA from Columbia College Chicago. With a background in theory, classical, and 20th-century music, Linda has enjoyed roles in musical theater, studio session work, as well as collaborations on original works with artists including, new music composers Carmen Helena Téllez, Christopher Preissing, playwright/composer Tom Weber, jazz funk band Original Balance, composer-poet Everette Howe, and others.

Linda was invited to join Actors Equity Association in 1984, and since has had principal roles in scores of theatrical and on-camera projects ranging from Christine in O’Neill’s 'Mourning Becomes Electra' to Annie in 'Annie Get Your Gun,' to commercial industrial videos and multimedia, to surreal collaborative films. She frequently works as a voice over talent as well, and has performed in a variety of performance situations and venues around the world including the Lake Placid Olympic Arena, ancient Turkish ruins, and the deck of a battleship in the Mediterranean Sea.
