Gloria is a licensed, master’s degreed social educator, inspirational author and motivational speaker. Her own story of a near-death experience from a life-threatening illness gives encouragement and inspires many patients, families and caregivers across the country.
Gloria teaches, develops and facilitates customized cultural diversity training workshops for healthcare, mental health and social service professionals in the areas of grief and loss, end-of-life care and spirituality.
She is the sole author of “The African-American Spiritual and Ethical Guide to End-of-Life Care”, first written in 2006 as a research paper that received funding to become a patient educational resource. She presented her work at the North American International Conference on Spirituality and Social Work in Ontario, Canada that same year.
Gloria has authored several cultural competency training manuals and inspirational, self-help books. Additionally, she is the creative energy of authentic inspirational gifts and prints through Heart Tones™. She is also a licensed minister whose faith empowers her to advocate and help others on their life journey of purpose. She is affectionately known as “The Inspirational Advisor” from her online column, “Inspiring Insights for Your Soul & Spirit!”
She was prominently featured in the Hospice Foundation of America 2009-10 national telecast and training DVDs and has been a guest on various television/radio shows, including NPR affiliate, KCUR and e-Care Diary. Gloria’s work was highlighted in several issues of Minority Nurse Magazine.
Her professional presentations include such groups as Children’s Mercy Hospital, The National Association of Social Workers, Kansas University Medical Center, Hospice of the Valley in Ohio, National Association of Multicultural Education (NAME) and The National Council of Black Studies (NCBS).
