What to expect
Most of my gigs are solo gigs and I play with the backing instrumentals of many different songs. I also can read music which wouldn't require a backing at all. I'm usually playing at events while people are mingling and enjoying their food. I have a speaker that I plug my violin mic into and I begin playing my whole list, which can last for about 2 hours. I do sometimes play with other instruments such as the bass, piano, viola, and other violinists. I can bring more musicians with me if you'd like a duet, trio, quartet or more.
About
Gianna Graham, professionally known as Geedah [jee-duh] B. , is a violinist, dancer, and an educator. As a performer, Geedah has worked with many patrons in the tri-state area (Pennsylvania, New Jersey, & Delaware). Geedah first took up violin at F.S. Edmonds elementary school in the 2nd grade. From then, her studies continued at Julia R. Masterman Laboratory and Demonstration middle school. Finally, she studied at Creative and Performing Arts High School, while also minoring in dance.
In high school, Geedah met a group of like minded musicians who introduced her to street performing. After school, she and her friends would perform on Philly’s streets and in subways, in various places in the Center City area including 17th & Walnut, City Hall and Rittenhouse Square. It was those moments she shared with her friends that inspired her and a dear friend, Amirror to begin a business by the name of "Vioduolin". At the time, Geedah and Amirror were just 17 and 18 years old, playing at different events in Philadelphia from weddings to funerals, being the source of beautiful music for all who wanted to hear it.
Playing the violin on the street strengthened Geedah’s musical ear and artistic expression. It's because of street performing that just about every one of her performances are done without sheet music because she's able to play by ear and memory. As she began college, the violin was something that remained a constant in Geedah’s life. When her friend moved away and started college in a different city, Geedah began her solo career shortly thereafter.
Geedah attended the dual enrollment program at Community College of Philadelphia and completed her studies in Public Relations at Temple University. During these years, Geedah was still making headway as a solo artist, which led to her decision to not pursue violin during her college career but she does aspire to go back to school and study violin, now that it plays such a major part in who she is today.
Studying violin was something Geedah did out of curiosity and it blossomed into something beyond her wildest dreams. She is a multi-talented artist who continues her own personal studies in dance and esthetics as she has just recently become a licensed esthetician.
Additional booking notes
I prefer to sit in a chair when performing, but I can also stand. I typically do not offer strolling because my equipment uses cords to amplify my violin and play backing tracks but depending on what the gig entails, I could offer strolling if the event allows.
