Dimitra the Greek Belly Dancer

Audiences should expect a professional, exciting performance from Dimitra, filled with audience participation and she loves to get the crowd involved in her show. Also to expect is an incorporation of a variety of interesting props, from wearing a candelabra with lit candles (called a Shamadan), dancing with shimmering Isis wings, to playing the finger cymbals throughout her show. Dimitra is also very friendly around children. Clients can expect effective communication from Dimitra regarding booking gigs, as well as making all possible accommodations for performances. Tattoos can be covered with make-up and a stocking can be worn to cover the midriff upon special request if the client wants a more conservative look for their event. Audiences should expect to see her beautiful, vibrant costumes from the Middle East and other countries, as well as her signature adornment of large flower headpieces.

Dimitra is a native of Greece, born in Athens, and is fluent in both the English and Greek languages. Her affinity for performing and music led her to singing and dancing in American pop performances while in college. After taking a belly dance class at Arabesque Dance Studio in Chicago, she was mesmerized by the beauty of the dance and how it connected to her Greek culture. She became intent on pursuing this art form through study with some of Chicago’s brightest stars.

Dimitra provides quality entertainment, seeking to infuse her Greek heritage into this ancient and beautiful dance form while showing her love of belly dance to her audiences. Dimitra has performed with Greek and Middle Eastern live bands in Chicago throughout a variety of venues. With a strong preference to dancing to traditional Greek music (called Tsifteteli), Dimitra is an authentic Greek belly dancer with a vast love and understanding of the music. She performs weekly throughout the city and is a member of the belly dance troupe Firqit Surayah.
