Highly Recommend

I hired the Capital Jazz Band for my event and couldn’t be happier with what they provided. The band created such a wonderful, swinging, and lively atmosphere and I highly recommend them for any event.

Incredible Singer and Musician

John of Capital Jazz is an incredibly talented singer, and a very professional musician to work with and book. As a fellow musician, I have worked with John on a number of occasions, and have hired him to perform for concerts and private events myself. I highly recommend him as a singer and trumpet player for any performance needs you may have.

Hired as: Jazz Singer, Wedding Singer

What to expect

If you decide to book me for your event, we will communicate about vibe you're going for, and what we can do to make it run smoothly. We will talk details like instrumentation (how many people in the band), location within the venue for us to play, any special musical requests, what you'd like us to wear, and other details like money, food, and parking.

I take the music we play and the event that you plan equally seriously. I make sure we are prepared, respected, and have what we need to sound as good as possible, and I make sure that you as the client have what you need from us to make the event as amazing (and stress-free) as you dream it to be.

You can expect us to play mainly jazz standards, some Sinatra/crooner- influenced numbers, and a bit of pop/R&B/Motown influence sprinkled in. We can take requests here and there, but if there is a lot of non-jazz that you'd like played, you might have better luck hiring a band that focuses more on what you want.

About

Originally from Albany, NY, I moved to Philadelphia to attend Temple University's esteemed jazz performance program, and have been here ever since. I sing and play trumpet, and am influenced in everything from the early swing era to crooners and R&B.

My musical journey has given me lasting friendships and professional relationships. I've played concerts at amazing venues and jazz clubs, and I've played jazz at events for people such as NFL head coaches, owners and players, for companies like, Wells Fargo, Vanguard, and Astra Zeneca, and for dozens of lovely newlyweds.

Additional booking notes

I provide a calmer vibe than a dance band or DJ, therefore I don’t have speakers as large as a typical DJ or large wedding band would. Keep this in mind if you’re looking for us to be the center of attention vs a background vibe. My microphone and speaker may be used for speeches, but keep in mind how far you need to reach, and how many guests you need to listen.

After the first hour of music, I require a 15 minute break m, and then the same after every following 45 minutes of playing. Some exceptions can be made like a longer set and then a longer break, etc.

Services 3 hrs or longer require food provided.

Parking compensation required if there isn’t free parking on premises.
