Overview

We are an acoustic 3-piece group of seasoned musicians with a passion for song & performance. Dobro, acoustic guitar, and upright bass are the backdrop for sweet three part harmonies that tell a story or paint a picture for listeners. Though we pride ourselves on our original material, we also play cover only events, gladly learning specific material for shows. We can be backdrop instrumental, bluegrass, re-worked pop/rock songs, or take hold of a night with our original material. Catering to an event is part of our joy. Having no drums, our volume is easily adjustable; we can play truly acoustic in a corner, bring amps and a PA to bring the party, or dial it all in to perform remotely.

What to expect

Black Partridge brings originals, covers and requests to their shows. Seasoned professionals play to a room's vibe, acoustics, and planner's direction. Timely, transparent, and communicative, this fun three piece carry an easy going attitude, having done it and seen it all for decades - they aren't surprised by much anymore. Prepared with pro gear and expecting problems, they don't get rocked by little issues or technical problems, generally having a back up plan in place. Pro level light and sound without all the road cases create a clean, safe stage that can fit into a corner or expand to festival sizes.

About

Black Partridge members James, Dan, and Barrett have been playing the music scene in the heart of Roger's Park for 20+ years. Each have toured with bands nationally, and had even been bands together before - but never like this. Focused on song, harmony, and performance, Black Partridge has raised the bar for themselves. Dan, who had toured with national act Sarah Potenza, brings a storyteller/Americana sound to the band. James, formerly of Outlaw Family Band & The Henhouse Prowlers, brings a gritty outlaw country twang merged with classic bluegrass. Barrett, having toured with members of Funkadelic and performs regularly with members of Timbuk 3, brings a funk-rock leaning dirt pop to the band. That diversity keeps the energy going with a 'what comes next' curiosity for listeners. All these sounds framed within an all acoustic sound with three sweetly blended voices, make Black Partridge stand out as a unique modern take on a tried and true soundscape - variations of Americana.

Additional booking notes

Black Partridge can supply lights and sound for an additional fee, based on size of venue and number of attendees. We provide our own microphones and amps. We always prefer to use house gear when possible, and generally will 'deal' with what is available (to a point - we won't sacrifice sound) to make set up easy and efficient. If the house is providing sound and lights we prefer:

3 Boom Stands
6 XLR cables
4 Power outlets (Downs Stage Left, Center, Right and Upstage Center)
3 Monitors, prefer each with their own mix
Pro level lights set to slow color change
House provides capable/experienced audio engineer or covers cost for ours.

For remote performances, we have a few different settings to choose from, and can readily upgrade the quality with cameramen to turn the event into a multi-camera shoot. We use zoom, restream, facebook, or youtube with our system rooted around a blackmagic switcher.
