Why hire Kenia Armstrong?
I have provided over forty years of experience playing many venues of music. All styles of music. I've performed as a Pianist for Wedding Orchestras in Westchester County. Having performed overseas in Singapore with a Show Band, having played for the movie,"The Wedding Brothers, featuring Phil Perry. Having come full circle as a pianist, looking for work as a soloist. Piano Bar, private party, wedding ceremonies, etc. I would entertain playing in a Band playing funky music, and, Classic R&B. I improvise with a passion for playing. A accompanist for vocals is one of my very strong points.
About
I'm a former New Yorker, having played many venues around the tri-state area. I've performed in bands for over thirty years. A event planner can expect a professional musician, one that has the talent, experience, dedication to providing quality services. One can expect a performer that has performed on A&R Records, performed on stage opposite Gloria Gaynor. Performed for over 4,000 US Armed forces while in Singapore. I play many styles of music. I prefer to play popular music. I'm not interested in performing classical music at this time. My song list covers the Big Band of the 30's & 40's, the "doo-wop" era, having played for the "Platters" and the "Ink Spots" in concert. My strengths include, Motown, the music of Earth, Wind & Fire, the Commodores, Lionel Ritchie, the Bee Gees( Saturday Nite Fever), the Disco era, during the 1980's. Having performed many popular songs at wedding receptions for ten years, starting in 1982. When computer sequencing became the "norm", I left the music business. DJ's have taken most of the work. Hip-Hop and today's music is not what I play, even thou I would play ballads as requested. I have knowledge of the guitar, perfomed "keyboard bass", drums, tympani. One area I do not have experience in, is the organ. A Hammond Organ is not my forte. Having said that, many keyboards have organ samples, therefore not needing a Hammond.
All music styles include, Rock, Jazz, Latin, Blues, R&B, Funk, Swing, Reggae with having many years of accompanying vocalists.
Influences
Over forty years of musical knowledge, it's hard to pinpoint the many influences over the years. The ones that stand out are, Oscar Peterson, Jimmy Smith, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Tower of Power, Jimi Hendrix, BB King, Chaka Chan, Patti Austin, Quincy Jones, Michael Jackson, and Chester Thompson.
What to Expect
Typical Gig Duration: 40 - 60 minutes
One should expect an artist, one that has knowledge to bring the audience into the performance. A passionate performer, having all the charisma of painting a musical picture of my performance. To bring one into the many years of how a presence on stage can excite, motivate, and appreciate the art form of performance.
