Jerry Vencill (storyteller, re-enactor & historian) has entertained audiences throughout the southeastern U.S. as "Old Jonah", Amos Skillet: Circuit Riding Preacher & other historical characters. He is an author & playwright with two published books of mountain tales in the Appalachian dialect. Dressed in buckskin shirt & breeches, wearing a hat made out of raccoon, skunk or fox & carrying a long flintlock rifle, Jerry travels all over the country keeping alive the tradition of storytelling. About
Jerry Vencill (storyteller, re-enactor & historian) has entertained audiences throughout the southeastern U.S. as "Old Jonah", 'Amos Skillet", Jim Bridger & other historical characters. He has played in the Horn of The West (Boone, NC), Trail of The Lonesome Pine in southwest Virginia & other outdoor dramas in addition to television and
film work. He is an author and playwright with two published books of mountain tales in the Appalachian dialect. His touring play "Sweet Winds Blowing" was even presented to a soldout audience at the historic Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Virginia in 1995. It was at an early age that Jerry Vencill realized the importance of storytelling and that it must be kept alive for all those to come. Having had it handed down to him from his father, Jerry has worked for many years to preserve the art through a character he created called Old Jonah, the Storyteller. Dressed in buckskin shirt & breeches, wearing a hat made out of raccoon, skunk or fox & carrying a long flintlock rifle, Jerry travels all over the country keeping alive the tradition of storytelling.
