Butch Dicus - The King of Hearts
Began impersonating Elvis Presley in 1973. Having experienced Elvis long before the King left this world, Butch was able to see in person how Elvis influenced the audience with his songs and charisma. Taking his Elvis impersonations to Germany and England, Butch was honored to win a chance to perform on London Weekend Television's version of "Star Search". Butch began performing his Elvis act fulltime in 2000, with an increase of venues over the last ten year to 300 shows a year.
Butch was invited to Memphis, Tennessee after to perform for the cast and crew of "Walk The Line"; a film depicting Johnny Cash's life. Butch was also invited by Elvis' High School, Humes, to entertain for their annual school reunion and has been requested each year since. From corporate events to fundraisers to sporting events, Butch has brought the music and the man to audiences around the world. In 2006 Butch performed for 17 casinos in the Oklahoma and Mississippi area.
Butch also performs his act for many local support groups in Arkansas to include the Arkansas Downs Syndrome Association, bringing awareness to the Downs Syndrome cause. Butch has volunteered for hospice-type situations, helping to make a person's life a little more comfortable. It has been proved music is the best medicine for a person's soul and Butch proves this each year through his work in the nursing and rehab facilities located throughout the South. Assisting residents at Memory Centers remember how great life was during the Elvis years.
When asked how or why he started impersonating Elvis, Butch only answer is "It started in 1973 when I witnessed for the first time what Elvis did for an audience. You can see in their faces the joy he brought and if any man/woman can help a one person forget hard times or troubles they may be experiencing for just one hour, that is worth a million". And Butch continues to do so.
When asked when this impersonation will ever end, Butch simply states "when the memory of Elvis Presley dies and basically, I don't have to worry about that".
