Burr Beard is one of the great players of the late 20th Century revival of the hammer dulcimer. Beard polished his Appalachian and Irish music styles in Pittsburgh, where he played in Buckdancer’s Choice (1977) with Ron Buchanan, Sue Powers and Bob Stein, and later Devilish Merry which he founded (1978) with Sue Powers and Larry Edelman. Original members Jan Hamilton Sota and LE McCullough still join with Sue Powers, Jeff Berman, Sam Mathews, Kip Rueffle and others in various combinations under the Devilish Merry name. Beard has served as Program Director, and Station Manager at various radio stations in a career which started in 1979 directly from his work as a musician.
