Phoebe Kim began studying violin and piano at the age of six. She has recently graduated with a Bachelor of Music in violin at Northwestern University with full scholarship. She has studied with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra concertmaster Frank Almond and the Chicago Lyric Opera concertmaster Robert Hanford at Northwestern. She has studied with Janice Luna in Long Beach, CA, throughout her high school years. She has also received lessons with David Rubinstein from Brown University, William Fitzpatrick from Chapman University, as well as Wendy Sharp from Yale University and Zaven Milikian at California Summer Music. Phoebe has served as the concertmaster of her high school symphony orchestra for all four years of high school as well as the concertmaster of the Orange County Youth Symphony Orchestra for two consecutive seasons. Her musical accomplishments include being chosen as one of the Young Artists for the Music Teachers’ Association Young Artists Guild and numerous performances for the MTAC recitals. She placed first in both Southwestern Youth Music Festival violin open division and Music Teachers’ Association of California - Vocalist Orchestral Instrumentalist Chamber music Ensembles branch competition in 2010. She also won a concerto competition and performed with the Orange County Youth Symphony Orchestra (OCYSO) in 2011. In 2012, she performed with her high school symphony orchestra in the Carnegie Hall. During summer of 2013, Phoebe performed in a London tour with the OCYSO as a concertmaster, under the direction of Daniel Wachs. She gave a Young Artist's Recital, sponsored by MTAC, in 2013 as well. Phoebe has received music scholarships from various groups and competitions such as the Friends of Cypress Cultural Arts Music Scholarship, the Women’s Club of Cypress Arts Scholarship, Music Teachers’ Association of California, and the Philharmonic Society from the Orange County Youth Symphony Orchestra. At Northwestern, Phoebe volunteered at the Mather Pavilion, home for senior living, where she played piano as well as violin in a string quartet and clarinet trio. She also taught violin to children with autism through a school organization called Academy of Music and Arts for Special Education (AMASE). Phoebe has performed in many church events, special events and weddings. She has recently moved to Irving, TX to continue her musical career as a violinist and a pianist.
