About

Tropicabana: A Beat Born Before the Silence
In February 2020, just as the last notes of carnival laughter faded into a chilly Pittsburgh winter, a spark of Brazil ignited near the Highland Par, on the corner of Bryant Street, inside the warm, welcoming walls of Casa Brasil. There, three kindred spirits—Vera Hite, her husband Sergey Postyanoy, and their friend Adriano Wisnik—gave birth to a dream called Tropicabana.
Their mission? To bring the heart of Brazil to Pittsburgh through music: from the tender sway of bossa nova and romantic baladas to the explosive rhythms of samba, frevo, axé and forró. The band’s debut, timed perfectly with the restaurant’s Brazilian Carnival celebration, was an instant hit. Colorful, joyful, and brimming with energy, it felt like the beginning of something big.
Then, just one month later, silence fell. Pennsylvania went into lockdown, and stages across the state went dark.
But Tropicabana didn’t die. It waited.
From February 2020 to December 2021, while the world held its breath, the band’s rhythm simmered quietly—practicing, planning, and believing. Like a seed buried in the soil during winter, they knew their time would come. And when the world reopened, so did the dance floor.
As people slowly gathered again, hungry for music and connection, Tropicabana emerged in full bloom. Their sounds—lively and infectious—filled parks, patios, and festival grounds. With every show, they brought more than music; they brought joy, movement, and a sense of belonging.
Now, Tropicabana is a beloved part of Pittsburgh’s cultural scene. Whether it’s the romantic pulse of a samba under the stars or the electrifying beat of carnival on a summer afternoon, they remind us all that even in the quietest times, the rhythm never truly stops—it only waits for the next chance to play.
