What to expect

I offer spoken word performances and multi-generational poetry workshops.

Spoken Word Performances: I have a large range of topics that have been covered through my writing. I speak on gun violence, generational and family trauma, healing, and some light-hearted dating themes. My pieces are usually 5 minutes, or under, individually. I also write new poems for themed events and occasions, so if that is requested, please let me know in advance.

Multi-generational Workshops: My workshops run for at least 1 hour and center around specific themes such as self-love, healing, etc, (themes can also be requested). I offer workshops for youth starting at 10 years of age, as well as adults, and mixed age crowds. They include an introduction, an ice-breaking writing prompt, and then a guided writing session. By the end of the workshop, each individual will have a finished poem of their own, and a new view of writing and their own potential.

About

Hey, hi, hello! My name is Jay Friday. Yes, Friday is my actual last name. I’m a Jawn from Philly (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), spoken word artist, poet, and workshop facilitator.

I wrote my first poem in 6th grade, and by high school, poetry became my main creative outlet. I've been writing poetry for over a decade. Making the transition from competing in poetry slams during high school, to becoming a familiar presence at open mics, I continue to excel in my craft. I'm a published author, facilitate writing workshops, and perform at artist showcases.

I use poetry to paint pictures, tell stories, and heal. Healing is a journey. I share my lows, as well as my highs, to hopefully help and encourage other people with similar life experiences. My catalog of poetry ranges from gun violence, to family relationships, and everything in between. I believe that poetry is more than an art form, it's a lifeline.
