Great Game, Great Guy

Tommy uses imaginative and illuminating story telling paired with hilarious voices and easy to follow setting depictions. He’s not only open to player creativity in and out of game, he encourages it and can swiftly volley back and forth, to your advancement or demise alike.

Tommy creates a safe space where you can freely express yourself and be as creative or not as you feel in any particular game. Technically, Tommy is very knowledgeable of the rules, structure, spells, player attributes, and is the perfect coach for any level of player.

What to expect

When you hire Three Dragons in a Trench Coat, you don't just get a Dungeon Master, you get a full-service adventure architect. I provide a zero-prep, high-tech D&D experience that is guaranteed to be the most memorable part of your celebration or event.

My process begins long before the first die is rolled. We connect with you and your players beforehand to discuss the group's experience level, interests, and the kind of custom adventure they're looking for, ensuring every quest is tailor-made for your celebration. Players can get assistance creating their own unique characters, or, for the ultimate convenience, I can provide pre-made, ready-to-play characters so the adventure starts the minute I arrive. I handle every detail so your guests can simply show up and start playing.

You can expect a whirlwind, exciting adventure, typically for 4 to 8 players, lasting about 3 to 5 hours—the perfect length for an epic one-shot event. This is just a baseline, though; I am experienced in running longer, multi-session events, weeklong camps, or even an entire weekend of D&D fun at your venue or AirBnB. Your event will be elevated by a level of technical polish you won't find anywhere else. I arrive with a complete kit of materials, including custom battle maps, synchronized music and sound effects, thematic lighting, and interactive physical props. I provide all the necessary dice, character sheets, and custom-designed miniatures for the event. And as a final thank you, every partygoer gets to keep their custom miniature to remember their heroic quest!

You provide the guests and the location; we bring the entire fantasy world to you.

About

Hi, I’m Tommy Nolan, and I’m a professional storyteller, and high-tech adventure designer.

As a professional Gaming Facilitator, I craft heroic quests and epic events that guarantee legendary moments. I’m the founder of Three Dragons in a Trench Coat, but before I was facing down monsters, I was running the show behind the scenes in the world of professional theatre and education. I spent years as a Technical Theatre Director, teaching students and managing every aspect of a stage—from lighting design to sound booths—which, it turns out, is the perfect training for a world-class Dungeon Master.

I use that backstage magic to turn your celebration into a blockbuster event. Forget the standard game: I am obsessed with high-tech immersion, and my quests are built with a love for tangible props, synchronized special effects, and clever puzzles that jump right off the map. My goal is to make the world feel real and every moment unforgettable.

I handle the rule mastery, the hilarious NPC voices, and all the prep work. You just sit down and start playing. Whether you’re booking a milestone birthday, the ultimate bachelor party, or a fresh corporate team-building event, I guarantee a critical hit for your party. It's zero-prep adventure for you, and maximum fun for everyone!

Additional booking notes

The core of our service is to provide a complete, turn-key adventure, meaning we bring nearly everything needed to run an unforgettable event.

*Baseline Requirements*
To host a professional D&D experience, we require very little from your venue:

— Seating: A large, dining-room style table that can comfortably seat the entire adventuring party (typically 4 to 8 players) and the Dungeon Master.
— Power: A nearby, easily accessible standard power outlet.

*Taking Advantage of Your Venue*
While we can transform any room, our background in technical theatre means we are experts at utilizing a venue's existing features to enhance the adventure.

If your location has any interesting or unique assets, please let us know! We would love to incorporate them into the experience. This includes:

— Built-in Sound: Any existing speaker system or sound setup.
— Unique Lighting: Color-changing lights, dimmers, or theatrical lighting fixtures.
— Atmosphere: Interesting history, architecture, or a unique vibe. If you're hosting an event in a haunted house, a speakeasy, or a historic building, we will absolutely leverage those elements to make the quest even more immersive and memorable.

Our goal is always to integrate seamlessly with your space, turning it into the perfect stage for a legendary tale.

Influences and inspiration

While every adventure I run is a completely unique, custom-built quest, my approach to professional D&D is heavily influenced by the titans of modern collaborative storytelling. I draw inspiration from groups that have redefined what a tabletop game can be—blending high production value, dynamic character performance, and compelling narrative structure.

I look to the legendary world-building of Matt Mercer and the expansive narratives of Critical Role, as well as the emotional depth and masterful humor of The Adventure Zone. I also deeply appreciate the creative structure of shows like Dungeons and Daddies and Not Another D&D Podcast (NADDPOD), which teach invaluable lessons about balancing sharp comedy with the tight, engaging narratives of fantasy worlds.

My biggest technical influences come from the DMs of Dimension 20 (like Brennan Lee Mulligan and Aabria Iyengar) for their ability to create fantastic, high-concept settings and utilize props, battle maps, and theatrical techniques to maximum effect.
