The Wolverine Jazz Band
Overview
We are a Dixieland/Traditional Jazz/New Orleans/Great Gatsby type of band that has been active in New England since 1995. We have 17 CDs to our name and have been doing national jazz festivals for over two decades. The full group is seven pieces, but we can pare down to a duo or trio and still give a great musical flavor that goes from vintage to modern swing - great for dancing, listening or background atmosphere!

July 7, 2026Jazz band
I engaged the Wolverine Dixieland jazz band to ride on my float for the July 4th Parade in Wolfeboro. They arrived on time, were completely self-contained, set up quickly and played their hearts out with fabulous Dixieland music during the length of the entire parade. It was a pleasure having them be part of the July 4th festivities. I would engage them in a second.

July 12, 2026Great Band!
I hired the Wolverines through John Clark a few years ago for my mother's big birthday bash! It was a full room with all my mother's friends from her exercise class and it was an amazing performance. The band adapted to the hall I had rented and they were fantastic! They took requests and played the whole engagement. Some of the best musicians in New England played for my mother's party. It was a great time, excellent music and band and my mothers friends talked about it for years. Some became immediate fans of the band and planned to see them perform at their other gigs. Everyone was very happy, the band is one of the best around, and the rates were very reasonable.

We can present a range of music from low key background through high energy jazz for a concert or party setting and also supply dancing styles from the Charleston through the Big Band foxtrot. For more general functions we can play waltzes, Latin selections and even some ragtime.
About
Since 1995 the Wolverine Jazz Band has been entertaining lovers of Traditional Jazz and Dixieland all over Boston and New England. The Wolverine Jazz Band is considered by many to be among the finest purveyors of Vintage Jazz on the East Coast. They also have a national following, having performed at numerous Jazz festivals across the country - Phoenix, Seattle, Florida, Tennessee, Ohio, Wisconsin, and others. Their annual concert, as the featured Jazz Artists at the prestigious Bar Harbor Music Festival, has played to packed houses for over 25 years.
The leader is John Clark, who has been a fixture on the New England Jazz scene for many years. He has played professionally in the Boston area with numerous traditional jazz and big bands, including the Happy Feet Dance Orchestra, Commonwealth Jazz, the New Black Eagle Jazz Band, and the Paramount Jazz Band of Boston. Clark also regularly appears with Dave Whitney and His Orchestra, the Swing Legacy, the High Society Orchestra, Dan Gabel's Abeltones and the Mood Elevators, among others. John is an acknowledged authority on the history of jazz and has recorded extensively. He also holds a PhD. in Musicology and has published books and articles on the foundations of Early Jazz.
Additional booking notes
We pride ourselves on being largely acoustic and self sufficient. When a sound system is needed we can supply it - from a small unit for restaurants (mainly for vocals and announcements) to a large system capable of filling a town green on a summer night.
