Tin Men – Jazz group specializing in Jazz Motown Standards, bringing all-time favorites to life from their Golden Age. Music includes songs from the great crooners including Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, and Tony Bennett plus Motown hits from Smokey Robinson, The Temptations and Stevie Wonder. Fans described our vibe as the perfect cocktail hour for a relaxing and grooving experience.
Tin Men – Jazz Group
The Tin Men jazz band originally formed in September 2021. The group first started out as a combo (stand-up bass and piano). They decided to name themselves “Tin Men” because when they first started, they were both rusty (like the Tin man) and out of practice. In 2023 the Tin Men decided to expand to include drums and for the charity event, they are featuring Ben Abney on lead vocals and Doug Baker on Sax.
Ben Abney (Vocals) – Jazz vocalist and native New Yorker, Ben has been singing in the Washington metro area for the past 30 years. While singing is his first love, he taught middle school mathematics in Fairfax County for 25 years. He presently is enjoying retirement and touring with the Tin Men.
Mario Gonzales (stand-up Bass) – Studied Classical String Bass and received a degree in Church Music. Mario has been playing music since he was 12 and is currently in 3 bands playing bass and singing.
Bruce Newton (piano) – Pianist, Guitarist and Vocalist, Bruce studied music in his youth and was a Music Teacher in his early days. Bruce has been playing in multiple bands over the years and enjoys several styles of music.
Stan McMullen (drums) – is an established jazz drummer who has performed for numerous top talents in the DC area. His contribution to the Tin Men was the precise element needed to complete our sound!
