Great stories & easy to work with!

We worked with Claire on an event at our retail property. She is a great story teller and captured her audience and participation. She was also easy to work with, very prompt to reply and answered all questions leading up to the event. The kids and parents really enjoyed it!

What to expect

My program presents children with four international folk tales. I begin at my knitting loom, as I tell the children that I've heard tales from around the world. Then I weave them on my loom and make them my own so I can share them with you. I show the children a globe and point out the first nation on the globe. I tell them a little bit about the culture of that country, and then I present my story. After the first story I will present some kind of interactive song, chant or game to get the children moving and engaged so they are prepared to sit again for the second story. This will continue through four stories for a forty-five minute performance. My style is humorous, energetic, and highly interactive. Children help act out parts of the stories. Depending on the story I may act just with my body and voice, or I may use props and puppets to engage the children. Once the program is done children may look at my loom and see how I use it.

For an additional charge, I will give the children each a strip of burlap, some strands of yarn and some beads. I will teach them how to weave the yarn in and out of the burlap, attaching the beads to make a unique work of art.

About

I've been a children's librarian for 25 years, and in that time I have performed hundreds of storytelling events for children. From (phone number hidden)8 I was the host of a children's cable access television program called Booker's Alley. Each month Booker, the friendly armadillo who lived at the library, and I would present at least three wonderful books to children in English, Spanish and sign language. I have an associate's degree in theater performance, and I've appeared in such local theater productions as The Promise in Glen Rose and A Wrinkle in Time at the Artisan Theater in Hurst.

Some of my local influences include DeeCee Cornish, Gary Whitaker and my great friend Jaye McLaughlin, who is the current president of the Tarrant Area Storyteller's Guild. She was my supervisor at the Fort Worth Library and she still provides instruction and advice to this day.
