About
Tara Hack has built her career on the belief that every song should feel like it was written for the person right in front of her.
Raised on Long Island, she found her voice performing in Penn Station, where a song had just seconds to stop busy commuters. Encouraged by her father, a Long Island Rail Road conductor, Tara began busking as a teen—an experience that sharpened her storytelling and rooted her music in deep empathy.
With tips collected from the subway, she self-funded early recordings, eventually reaching a milestone: a 2019 session at London’s legendary Abbey Road Studios. That project, paid for with pocket change, proved she could turn street-corner sincerity into polished, world-class production.
In 2020, her duet “Overthinking” with Ryan Cabrera and her holiday original “I Wish That It Could Be Christmas” both landed on SiriusXM, expanding her reach nationally. That same year, “Let Go” was featured on SiriusXM Train Tracks, and “She Wants to Be Loved” received spins on SiriusXM Velvet and Meg Ryan Disorder. In 2023, her single “Utopia” was spotlighted on Train Tracks and hosted by Pat Monahan of Train, while “Run To” also found a home on SiriusXM.
While performing in the UK, she caught the attention of Ron Altbach (King Harvest), Phil Pickett (Culture Club), and producer Benny D, leading to a three-month creative residency in England that deepened her sound.
Her recent work reflects that growth: “Bounce” brings disco-inspired energy to emotional lyrics, “Utopia” blends folk-rock with protest urgency, and “Sweet Nothing” showcases the warmth of her upper register. In “Who Is Hurting Who,” she teams up with UK garage pioneer K-Warren and Joe “2ton” Killington, effortlessly moving from acoustic introspection to dancefloor-ready grooves.
In 2025, Tara released Blue Smoke, a cinematic blend of retro rock and reggae that earned a feature on WFUV’s NY Slice, spotlighting her as a rising voice in New York’s indie scene.
