String Time Social (STS) was more of a concept than a band, born out of an idea using a simplified approach to music and sharing it with friends old and new in intimate settings. We wanted to get away from the separation of a stage and over amplification, letting the instruments and vocal harmonies ring true for folks that might want to listen, or just tap a foot while catching up with conversation. The three of us serve as a core with perhaps the occasional sit in from our wealth of local or regional talent we know. Our set lists provide a variety of tunes, old and new that we love and know you will too.
The band was amazing and did a fabulous job at our event at Asturia. Would use them again for sure!
String Time Social huddled up and played an unplugged set of straight up goodness for a charity oyster roast that I hosted for Frameworks of Tampa Bay. I can’t imagine having the event without them. All of our guests loved the live tunes and especially the initmate setting with the musicians who were outstanding people to be around, very talented and truly have bluegrass in their souls. I highly recommend.
Response from String Time Social:
Thanks John for the kind words. Oyster roasts are our specialty, and you throw a good one. Anytime!

A talented professional group whose humble down to earth personalities shine through their music.

The three of us serve as a core with perhaps the occasional sit in from our wealth of local or regional talent we know. Our set lists provide a variety of tunes, old and new that we love and know you will too. Some so old, no one knows who wrote them but they survived by word of mouth throughout centuries, yes centuries. Others are current and more familiar but reinterpreted as we hear them. We look forward to sharing our songbook, performances and original sound with audiences all around.
Chad Spikes is a Tallahassee boy, born and raised in musical tradition, growing up playing and singing with a family of talented vocalists and musicians. He has been performing in bands since he was 12 years old including performing Opera in various roles with the Florida State University School of Music. This experience and training and his eclectic appreciation for music has developed him into the vocalist and multi-instrumentalist he is today enabling him to share his heartfelt passion with all audiences.
Tug Winthrop was raised as a Navy brat and just can’t seem to sit still. He picked up a Dobro 14 years ago on tax day, after getting tired of watching friends pick at parties, and has never looked back, He has traveled the country playing with many musicians and friends on porches, at a festy, or sitting in on a gig. For long road trips he recommends Tim O’Brien’s “Red on Blonde” album or Bela Fleck’s “Tales From the Acoustic Planet Vol. 2.”
Molly Getson has been playing music since she was 6 years old. She started by training classically on the violin and then branched off in college to learn improvisation and how to turn that violin into a fiddle! She can also mess around on a guitar and enjoys singing harmony. She's a New England girl at heart and has been down here in Florida since 2013. She spends her work hours as a fish biologist and her play hours making music!
