FYI...

Station1201 is not a radio station, it's a band. An energetic, fun and unpredictable band that plays like your ipod on shuffle. Pop, Rock, Reggae, R&B, Country, Rap. They do it all from LL Cool J to Metallica and Bob Marley to Garth Brooks. The band first came together in 2007 in the DC/Baltimore suburb of Gaithersburg, Maryland when founding vocalist/frontman Shawn Hillman met guitarist/vocalist Kenny Day through a music ad. Both were veterans of the local music scene, and singer/songwriters who wanted to balance great original music with a unique and eclectic batch of covers spanning five decades and a wide range of influences. From the beginning it was clear they didn't fit the mold of your average cover band.

Station1201 has emerged as one of the premier live bands in the DMV region, playing shows from the Eastern Shore to West Virginia, headlining large events like the Northern Virginia Fall Brewfest and St. Patrick's Day Festival at Reston Town Center. They've been an institution at Washington Nationals games since 2008, where they've entertained baseball fans inside the stadium and played to huge post-game crowds at The Fairgrounds. They've participated in the concert series at Yards Park and Golden Triangle in DC, Rio and City of Gaithersburg in addition to countless club dates and private events. The group's captivating live show has not gone unnoticed among music fans in the DC region: Station 1201 was honored with 2nd place in Washington City Paper's "Best Local Band" poll, and has been featured twice in On Tap magazine. Their original music has been played on DC101's Local Lix and Phoenix Internet Radio.

And what does the name Station 1201 mean? Nothing really. We just liked the way it sounds. Original drummer Brian Boone had formerly been in a band called Day Station. The number 1201 refers to the time of day (or night rather) that the band would end their rehearsals - 12:01am.
