We take listeners on a cosmic journey of sight & sound that must be experienced to be appreciated. People often compare us to Pink Floyd, ELO, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Vangelis, etc. The mood varies from piece to piece: Sweeping cosmic tapestries of sound interweave with rockin' beats and electrifying improvisation, and even some seductive jazz. Formed in 2023, Sonic Vortex grew out of an intense research project by keyboardist Ben Luce into the technology and history of analogy synthesis, and methods of creating visuals from music in real time. Luce then reunited with bassist Pete Black and drummer Doug Boyd to create the powerhouse trio that Sonic Vortex is today. We play all original "Ambient Spacerock" as we like to call it. Our music is highly melodic, drawing on a lifetime of composition and playing experience.
