Solo Cello

Katie Hurwitz is from Walpole, MA, where she has had experience playing and performing cello since 2012. Most notably, Katie has played with the MIT Summer Philharmonic Orchestra, Harvard Summer School Orchestra, Sharon Community Orchestra, Newport County Orchestra, University of Rochester Chamber Orchestra, and University of Rochester Symphony Orchestra. She has also had chamber music and cello choir opportunities at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School, and she started a cello choir at the University of Rochester.

Additionally, Katie founded Walpole Porchfest in 2020, where she performs her cello. As a solo cellist, Katie has also performed at weddings, memorial services, and church services.

Katie, class of 2023 at the University of Rochester, is an aspiring educator for elementary-aged students. Based on her work teaching and writing curriculum within organizations such as FableVision Learning, she dreams of becoming a teacher. Passionate about globalizing her knowledge of the arts to later integrate into her pedagogy, she is also studying world music, creative writing, and comparative literature as an undergraduate student. Outside of the classroom, Katie has developed an interest in equitable music education through her work with the Newport String Project, ROCmusic Collaborative, and the Little Orchestra Society, and she has been advocating for the exposure of translated literature through her work with Open Letter Books and Outside in World.
