Overview

Shakespeare...with puppets!
The Shakesbears are a cute troupe of animal puppets that provide children with a fun, visual, and unique introduction to Shakespeare’s stories, and a puppet making activity! The Shakesbears are available for parties, events, classrooms, or daycares. By creating unique and engaging puppet experiences, I hope to empower youngsters with new tools of expression and a deeper understanding of language, performing arts, and the human condition.

Great Show!!

Shakesbears was the perfect entertainment for our group of 2-8 year olds. Everyone had a blast. The performer is so talented and does a great job bringing Shakespear to life in a way that's appropriate for kids. The puppet craft at the end was a hit with everyone! Would highly recommend for anyone looking for wholesome entertainment for young kids.

What to expect

A Shakesbears show usually consist of a short, Shakespeare-inspired marionette show and a puppet making or craft activity.  There are a few different options available to fit your needs.

The shows are designed to be enjoyed by children and adults of all ages but they work especially well for children ages 3-9, and mixed ages are no problem.

The puppet shows themselves are short, sweet, and funny. The handmade puppets are bright, expressive, and engage the attention of even very small children.

Older children and adults will enjoy the zany retelling of a Shakespearean Comedy through modern language sprinkled with Shakespeare’s original text. All children will leave with their very own puppet creation!

About

Christina Rodriguez is an NYC-based actor and puppeteer. She holds a BFA from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and has worked as a professional puppeteer since 2014.

Her work with children includes Long Lake Camp for the Arts, Camp Half-Blood, and WonderSpark Puppets. In addition, she has led residency workshops for children of all ages in schools, play spaces, non-profit organizations, festivals, and birthday parties.

Her original puppet works have been featured in New York at La MaMa, Standard Toykraft, Puppet Playlist, Dixon Place, and classrooms all around the greater NYC area. She has toured internationally with ShakesBEARS and as a freelance puppeteer. Christina also builds and sells her puppet creations.

Christina conceived and created ShakesBEARS because she sought to create a children's program to help change the concept that Shakespeare is confusing and inaccessible. She meticulously edits and interprets some of Shakespeare’s best loved stories to appeal to children and parents of all ages. She designed, carved, and painted the toy theater and marionettes that she performs with. Creating Shakesbears has truly been a labor of love.

It is Christina’s goal to introduce children to Shakespeare's stories in a funny, engaging, and interactive way that opens the door to a lifelong love of learning.
