About

Canadian soprano Sarah Cao is in her final semester at the Eastman School of Music, where she studies with Joshua Conyers while pursuing a Bachelor of Music in vocal performance and a Bachelor of Arts in business, alongside a Catherine Filene Shouse Arts Leadership Certificate.

This summer, Sarah joined the Chautauqua Opera Conservatory as “Papagena” in Die Zauberflöte and “Tirésias” (cover) in Les Mamelles de Tirésias. She was a soloist in the school of music’s chamber recital, where she performed Quatre Poèmes Hindous by Maurice Delage and La Mort du Nombre by Messiaen.

At Eastman, Sarah made her operatic debut as “Yniold” in Impressions de Pelléas. She was the soprano soloist in Bach Cantatas 120 and 121 under the baton of Henry Griffin, the soprano cover in Mendelssohn's Lobegesang and "The Youth" in Mendelssohn's Elijah, both with the Eastman Philharmonia, and a soloist in Messiah Sings. Additionally, she premiered several art songs by student composers, including Nathanael Kumar's "To My Grandfather" and "Listen," and Irene Huang's song cycle Hills of the North.

Sarah was a finalist in the 2026 Friends of Eastman Opera competition, adjudicated by Robert Ainsley. She received Honorable Mention at Eastman's second songSLAM and was a frequent winner of the Upstate NY chapter auditions for NATS. Recently, Sarah became a recording artist with her solo track "A Charm at Parting" on IN PLAIN SIGHT: The Black Anthology produced by Lexicon Classics.

Passionate about making opera more intimate and accessible, Sarah hopes to pursue a career that combines performance with arts leadership.
