Overview

I am a multi-instrumentalist specializing in a variety of traditional African instruments. I play original and traditional folk music. I enjoy playing solo and with a band. My solo performances have a sound of a band; like a one-man band. I make all my instruments and come up with my own special way of tuning. In addition to performing, I am also a music, drum, and dance instructor.

fantastic energy

Energy is contagious! Samuel tells the stories of his life, his music, and even his dancing! He is funny, fascinating, and fantastic! If you get a chance - bring your friends to one of his shows. Be ready to buy his downloads, DVDs, or whatever he has. I think he could sell custom instruments! I want more of Samuel!

What to expect

The audience can expect to listen to original and traditional African folk music. There will be a variety of traditional instruments played. Depending on the type of audience/event, I talk about the different instruments and tell stories to go with the tunes. Often times the audience is up and dancing by the end of the show, including me!

About

A native of Uganda, East Africa; Samuel Nalangira is a folk/world musician, dancer, and choreographer who has been performing since his childhood and teaching since the age of 15. Influences and inspiration

Music has always been a part of me and in my family. I started when I was 8 years old. I taught at many schools and organizations. I have performed in many groups and bands. After being a teacher for 15 years, I decided to focus on my music career. I would say two big influences in my music career have been Lucky Dube and Herbert Kinobe.
