Rob Flax's Boom Chick Trio: "All Of Me" (Jazz/Swing)

Overview

I play things with strings, I hit stuff, and I sing.

Multi-instrumentalist, composer, and educator, I'm available for events of all sizes and styles. I have played hundreds of weddings in the Boston area since moving here in 2010, as well as corporate events, private parties, functions, etc.

Available as a solo violinist, or I have a deep list of connections with the best musicians in Boston. Drop me a line (here, or I'm easy to find elsewhere) and let's make it happen!

Rob was so easy to work with from start to finish. He did most of the planning work for me and everything went off without a hitch! Highly recommend working with Rob, he has a lot of expertise and passion - our friends and family had such great things to say during and after the wedding! Huge thank you to Rob for being part of our special day 🙂

Rob was great to work with from the start and met us with energy and enthusiasm every step of the way. He was extremely accommodating and agreed to learn several new songs for our wedding, including "Light through the Leaves of Love," and "Birds of a Feather." He used a loop pedal expertly in an arrangement of "Iris" and echoed the unique original guitar sound as a solo violinist. Would suggest that anyone hiring a violinist for a wedding ceremony request to hear at least a portion of a new arrangement in advance of ceremony if crucial to the event in order to ensure it works well for violin.

Rob also worked with us last minute to get under temporary cover for rain sprinkles pre-ceremony (our wedding was at 4:30pm and rain did not fully break until around 4:25pm). He helped create a lovely atmosphere for the ceremony and we are so thrilled to have worked with him.

Rob played for our Hindu wedding ceremony, and even though he wasn’t previously familiar with most of the Indian music we wanted, he learned it wonderfully and his beautiful playing made our ceremony that much more special!

Rob was booked for a last minute surprise. On short notice he was able to learn song request on the fly and delivered a performance that left my date speechless. I will definitely be booking him again and he will be getting a contact from me for my wedding

P.S. He killed his Beyonce Halo cover!!!

What to expect

If you hire Rob for his solo violin work, expect to hear a classically trained master instrumentalist, with a degree from the New England Conservatory, capable of playing a wide variety of styles from classical to jazz to bluegrass and more. His extensive experience playing for private events means you'll get quality, elegant entertainment that strikes a perfect balance between lively background music and engaging with the crowd in a dynamic and enertaining way.

Likewise, if you'd like some swingin' jazz violin with a full band sound, Rob can assemble a band of top players in the area to fit your needs and your budget. Trio with guitar and bass is a particular favorite, and often a great balance between full sound and affordable rates.

If you'd like Rob to be more in the foreground, check out his solo looping "one man band" arrangements (search "Photosynthesis" on YouTube). He's a great singer-songwriter, with original music that's sure to be a hit at a house concert.
