Rachel has performed classical, pop, jazz, sacred, chamber music, and other genres. Her formal training has always focused on classical music but her musical ability is not limited to that.
Pianist Rachel Jackson is currently pursuing her master’s degree in music performance at Butler University in Indianapolis. She was most recently awarded the collaborative piano assistantship at Butler, accompanying many undergraduate students in their weekly lessons and performing for recitals throughout the semester. Rachel began her musical training at the age of six using a traditional method and later switched to the Suzuki method. She began teaching privately prior to college and throughout her undergraduate studies in the Cincinnati area. Rachel has recently completed her ECC training in Chicago, IL with Sally Gross and her Suzuki Piano School Book 1 training with Marilyn Andersen.
Rachel has performed as a soloist and collaborative pianist in numerous venues including the George R. Brown Convention Center, Newfields Indianapolis Museum of Art, Indiana Convention Center, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Marysville, Ohio, the Troy Hayner Cultural Center, and Wright State University’s Arts Gala. She has performed solo masterclasses for Jon Nakamatsu, 1997 gold medalist for the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and Sean Chen, 2013 bronze medalist. In the summer of 2018, she was accepted as a collaborative pianist in the Vienna Summer Music Festival. While there she studied with Hafez Babashahi of the Wagner Conservatory in Vienna, Austria. In the summer of 2017, she attended the National Music Festival on full scholarship as a collaborative piano apprentice under Professor Michael Gurt. Troika, the chamber ensemble in which she was pianist received alternate place in the MTNA Chamber Music Competition state division. Rachel's Sorelle Piano Trio was invited to perform a masterclass with Maestro Keith Lockhart, conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra.
Her musical mentors include Jackson Leung, Kate Boyd, and Anna Briscoe. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree in performance, graduating with highest honors, from Wright State University. Her awards include the Pi Kappa Lambda Scholarship, Women's Department Scholarship, William and Helen Speicher Outstanding Music Performance Award, Director's Scholarship, Pemberton-Toomey Piano Scholarship, Sophie Kerrigan Memorial Scholarship, Irene Romanowski Piano Scholarship, and Harley Flack Memorial Scholarship.
Additional Booking Notes
Of course, a piano is required. I do not have a portable keyboard. If the lighting is very minimal, I request a music light stand. There is typically no need for sound adjustment as the pianos usually project well.
