Queen of Drafts

A reprieve from hosting. Poems that alter and shift the energy in the room, taking guests on a sensory ride. A transformation of what you and your guests know poetry to be. My poems bring laughter, joy, and introspection. Everyone in the room will find themselves in at least one poem.

Jellissa Lacon AKA Queen of Drafts is a New York-born and raised spoken word artist, author of debut chapbook “The Girl Who Bows Her Head” (2023), and a rising name in the poetry slam world. Queen of Drafts has performed at Baltimore Pride (2025) and at the DC Atlas Dance Festival. She has featured across the United States at multiple poetry venues and private events from New Jersey to Georgia to Las Vegas. In 2023, Queen of Drafts opened for Women of the World Poetry Slam Final Stage and In 2021, Jellissa was not only an NYC Youth Poet Laureate (YPL) Finalist but a member of the Urban Word Youth Slam Team. They are a 3x slam champ at the legendary Nuyorican Poets Cafe, a winner of the Nuyorican-Bowery Friday Night Slam, and 2x featured poet at the prestigious Lincoln Center. Jellissa has performed in the heart of Times Square, and can be found on Baltimore’s Charm City Slam.
They’ve also worked with the US Department of State to perform for students in Switzerland, have been featured in multiple newscasts, and have led poetry workshops for high school students, as well as performed at Monroe College and Coppin State University. Queen of Drafts has utilized their writing skills at the well-known Food Network where they can be found on the Food Network blog and they have poems published in Invisible Zine.
Jellissa aims to challenge, inspire, and invoke hard conversations as a way to begin healing.

Service prices include writing, performing, choreo, and travel. Commission poems are +50. If wishing to negotiate pricing, we would no longer be utilizing Gig Salad.
