Overview

I am one of a few full-time artists working nationally who is equally successful for any age audience. I perform for children and families nationally, and am also successful with adult and senior listeners. My shows are lively, thought-provoking, fun and funny and highly interactive, involving the audience totally to create a unique spirit of community. I offer themed concerts for children, most with an educational bent along with being totally fun; plus 4 different concerts for adults and seniors. I can also custom-write a concert for any occasion.

On top of concerts I offer workshops, keynotes & more.

What to expect

Patricia Shih has been celebrated as a multi-national award winning singer-songwriter for decades. Her act is available as a duo, trio or quartet by adding one or two guitarist/bass player/vocalists and/or a drummer/percussionist.

She is equally successful and experienced with audiences of all ages, from toddlers to senior citizens and everyone in between. Most of her songs have audience participation, adding to the fun and involvement of their hearts, minds, voices and sometimes even bodies!

She has four shows for adults. Two of her shows of her highly popular ones ("Appleseeds: The Life, Times and Music of Pete Seeger" and "Songbirds: Women in Folk" about Ronnie Gilbert of The Weavers, Joan Baez, Judy Collins, Mary Travers of Peter, Paul and Mary, and Joni Mitchell) are multimedia with projected images, video and recorded narration interspersed with live performance. Along with these, two other shows ("The Best-loved Sing-along Folk Songs EVER!" and "Patricia Shih in Concert" of mostly Ms. Shih's original songs) have been extremely well-received by audiences and bookers alike.

Her shows for children and families have received rave reviews by bookers (libraries, schools, festivals, fairs, community events and many more), praised for their fun and meaningful themes and songs. She has 18 different themes and also can custom-make new shows on any topic. All songs have total audience participation, some from their seats and some onstage, which children and adults love. Besides concerts Ms. Shih offers workshops and residencies, some of which are cultural ("Let's Go to China!") and training for teachers and performers.

About

Patricia Shih wrote her first song at age 12 and hasn’t stopped since. At 15 she signed a recording and managerial contract with Unicorn Records of Washington, DC as part of a folk duo. This marked the start of her professional career. A 45 rpm record was released a year later, and numerous TV, radio, concert and club performances followed. Included were an international radio broadcast on the Voice of America and appearances at the legendary Cellar Door, where the duo was first runner-up to Emmylou Harris in the competitive “Best of the Hoots.” Ms. Shih began her solo career in San Francisco, notably on her own PBS special “Patty Shih—Music from the Gallery.” Six years later, she returned to the east coast and settled in Huntington, NY. She began specializing in music for children and families in 1986 while continuing to perform for adult and senior audiences.

To date Ms. Shih has written over 250 songs, both alone and in collaboration with others. She performs extensively, appearing on TV and radio, in clubs, concert halls, schools, libraries, major music festivals and so on, touring internationally. She starred for a year as host on Cablevision’s “Tell Me A Story” on the Extra Help Channel seen twice daily, and also wrote and performed the show’s theme song. She has appeared in concert with such luminaries as Pete Seeger, Bonnie Raitt, Richie Havens, David Bromberg, Tom Chapin, Livingston Taylor, Odetta, Billy Bragg, Janis Ian, Michelle Shocked, Melanie and Peter Yarrow, among others. Her songs are recorded and performed by numerous other artists throughout the world, have been published internationally in magazines such as Sing Out! and Broadside and the Rise Up Singing Songbook, and have won awards and accolades in the American Songwriting Festival, the New York Songwriters Showcase, Parents Choice Awards, and the BACCA Songwriting Competition (First Place). Featured articles on Ms. Shih have appeared in The New York Times, Oakland Tribune, Newsday, Acoustic Guitar Magazine and AsiAm Magazine.
