About

Raised in the foothills of Appalachia on Old Time and traditional Folk in a family band, Daphne followed her dreams to the Brooklyn of the 90s, sailed around the world, and landed on the East Coast to start a brick-and-mortar record shop, label, and host years of festivals and concerts, surviving cancer several times over as she created 7 albums of heartbreakingly beautiful, danceable, powerful original songs.

Now an award-winning Writer and Producer, with music in film and television, you’ll find her touring from her home base of New Orleans, Louisiana.

No Depression described Daphne as “the voice of futuristic folk-rock/alternative-roots music...
exploring the outer reaches of nostalgic melody. ”

Her 2022 release 'The Starter Wife' garnered international critical acclaim, including Best Releases on NPR's 'All Songs Considered'

‘The Death of Cool’ is coming in May of 2026. Produced by platinum-selling artist Jimbo Mathus and engineered/mixed by Grammy Award-winner Mike Napolitano, the record features an extraordinary lineup of New Orleans, Mississippi, and Muscle Shoals talent including Preservation Hall’s Caroline Brunious, Charlie Halloran, Brent Rose, Kirk “Bowie” Russell, and members of Squirrel Nut Zippers. The result is lush horn arrangements, swamp-soaked guitars, upright bass, and cinematic energy wrapped around Powell’s unmistakable voice.
