Tamar Simon and Geoffrey Schellenberg are offering their own special performance of opera duets and arias. They are extremely versatile performers who have had lots of experience performing in many private and pubic events. Their list of recent successes include the Metropolitan National Council Auditions (Ms. Simon - 2016 Western Canada District Winner) and the Canadian Opera Company Centre Stage Competition (Mr. Schellenberg - 2016 Third Prize Winner). Tamar Simon is a soprano from Surrey, British Columbia. She has recently completed her masters of music in opera performance at the University of British Columbia, receiving private instruction from Patrick Raftery. At UBC, she performed many roles including Susanna in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, Musetta in Puccini’s La Bohème, and Tytania in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Ms. Simon has also furthered her vocal studies abroad. She performed the role of Calisto in Cavalli’s La Calisto at the Centre for Opera Studies in Italy and studied voice in Austria at the Internationale Sommerakademie Mozarteum under Helen Donath after receiving the Johann Strauss Foundation Scholarship. Last year, she was a Western Canada District winner in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, and she will be seen this summer as Echo in Richard Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos (UBC Opera) and Zerlina in Mozart’s Don Giovanni (Hawaii Performing Arts Festival).
Minnesota-born baritone Geoffrey Schellenberg recently completed his master’s degree in opera performance at University of British Columbia, studying under baritone Peter Barcza. Recent performances with UBC Opera include Eugene Onegin in Eugene Onegin, Papageno in Die Zauberflöte, Demetrius in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Lescaut in Manon, and Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro. Outside of UBC, Mr. Schellenberg has performed in Burnaby Lyric Opera productions as Sharpless in Madama Butterfly and Peter in Hansel and Gretel. He was also selected as a winner of the 2015 Metropolitan Opera National Council Western Canada District Auditions and won Third Prize at the 2016 Canadian Opera Company Centre Stage competition. In July 2017, he will be performing Belcore in L’elisir d’amore with Music Academy of the West and will then join the Calgary Emerging Artist Ensemble in October 2017
