Our book covers 6 eclectic decades of pop music, with special love for pop rock, and is extensive enough to easily fill a long event. We're available for all types of events, including weddings, parties, restaurants, parades, and even protests! Off the Bar Brass was formed in the fall of 2020 by trombonist Tom McHugh. They were born on the streets of Manhattan — first wandering from restaurant to restaurant in the West Village, before booking gigs at private events, street fairs, and music venues. The band strives to have a diverse book of music, spanning 60 years of pop culture for everyone to enjoy. “Off the Bar” is a reference to soccer culture, of which Tom is an avid supporter.
We're a 5-piece brass band, featuring drum set, tuba, and three melody horns (usually trombone, trumpet, and saxophone). We can perform with a group as small as 4, or for a mobile, second line-style band, we can swap the drum set for two marching drummers.
The band is perfectly happy to play unamplified, but for a large room (or a rowdy crowd), we'd be happy to plug in to a house PA. Most band members travel with their own wireless microphone setups.
