Overview

I'm a singer/songwriter offering to play at private parties or corporate events. My music is a blend of African rhythm and Western Folk, hence the Afro-Folk genre. I can perform either solo or with a band, which consists of a bass player, drummer, percussionist and myself on guitar and vocals. I perform mostly original material that has a very positive message. I'm happy to tailor the music to fit your event.

A virtual concert celebrating warmth and kindness

Naomi performed for us during a virtual private concert for a team scattered around the globe in their home offices during the Covid pandemic. Her warm, sincere and positive songs - all speaking in some way about what makes us human - were the perfect way to celebrate what keeps us strong in these times. This, along with her beautiful voice and her personal stories, created a wonderful, intimate atmosphere that we will remember for a long time to come.

Reaches deep into your heart

Naomi has performed for my pediatric oncology patient families and supporters through the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. She also performed multiple times at our home, including a performance that was recorded and included in a seven artist CD that was released a few years ago (The Violet Sessions). When the music was being mixed for the CD, the producer noticed that the audience made an murmur of connection, understanding, and love after each song, just before applauding. This observation captures the spirit of Naomi's music and performance - she truly reaches into your heart and helps you open it.

What to expect

I'm a singer songwriter who sings mostly original material. I often cover topics that range from positive messages about body image, healthy self esteem, love and break-up songs. I also incorporate messages of a more holistic society that is mindful and compassionate.

Quotes:

"Naomi has the unique vocal ability to assert both power and sensitivity in her melodies, to hold a room breathless each time she opens her mouth to sing." Project Girl Crush

"Naomi's music carries grace, authenticity, positivity and acoustic rhythms that blend Western and African melodies that is sure to touch your soul." Living Ma'at Magazine

"Wachira's velvety alto and unpredictable vocal lines over her folky wholesome guitar strumming reflect musical upbringing and African homeland." The Source Weekly, OR

About

Lauded in 2013 as Best Folk Singer in Seattle, Naomi Wachira is an artist of formidable talent and heart. Seattle Music Insider raves her performances as "marked by her strong stage presence, storytelling and enduring smile." Wachira's voice is a melding of rich sources from her childhood in Kenya, her Northwest home, and such American inspirations as Tracy Chapman and South African activist Miriam Makeba. Her music & songwriting brings together harmonies that speak across continents and cultures.

Additional booking notes

Only require a simple set up with vocal mic, DI for acoustic guitar and stage monitor. If I play with a band it's more detailed set up depending on what instruments we will have, but most likely will be drums, percussionist, bass and guitar.
