June 16, 2026We hired Miles Over Mountains for our family/friends picnic, and they were absolutely fantastic. Every member of the band was incredibly talented, professional, and entertaining. Beyond their amazing music, they were genuinely warm, friendly people who made everyone feel comfortable. By the end of the event, they felt more like good friends than hired musicians.
Their music created the perfect atmosphere, and our guests couldn't stop talking about how much they enjoyed the performance. We booked Miles Over Mountains 2 years in advance because we're "plan ahead" type people and from the initial booking to the event, Pete was fantastic to work with. He was patient and helpful and made me feel very excited for our event. He answered my questions quickly and guided us towards a successful event. I appreciated that they steered us away from some choices and on the day of the event, they just took care of things and made great decisions when there were things that didn't go as planned. Aside from being helpful, kind, understanding, and communicative, Miles Over Mountains are AWESOME musicians. I didn't want to miss a second of their set! When our guests cleared out early, they played a few songs for us acoustically before packing up. It was an experience we'll remember forever. If you're looking for a bluegrass band, you won't find a better group of people and musicians.

Hailing from McHenry, IL Miles Over Mountains plays a modernized style of progressive bluegrass covering a wide spectrum of genres, dynamics, and feeling. Their live catalogue draws from their studio albums “Five Star Heart Breaker” (2015), “Ballads & Burners” (2017), and “Work Harder Not Smarter" (2020). The band has been performing, touring, and making records since early 2014 playing an average of 150+ shows per year throughout the Midwest region and beyond. The band looks with excitement and hungry ambition towards the 2022 tour season, coming to a town near you!
The group features Phil Hoffman (upright bass), Caleb Peters (guitar), Sean Shiel (mandolin) and the new addition of Pete Smith (banjo) and Shawn Drake (fiddle) in 2021. Collectively the members of the group have thousands of shows under their belt, giving their songs, sound, and performances a musical maturity that echoes their collective years of passion and experience.
Miles Over Mountains travels with a full system and lighting upon request. A stage is always preferred, but not always necessary. They can provide at most 3 to 4 hours of live music, and intermission music of your choice on set breaks. Inquire for more specific details.
