The Hogmires
Overview
The Hogmires are a local Bluegrass trio (guitar, mandolin, bass) playing Chicagoland venues for over 11 years. We can flex our arrangement down to a duo or up to a quintet including a fiddle and banjo to accommodate different venues and events. We love playing a wide variety of American music, ranging from traditional bluegrass to folk, blues, swing, old time, and jams (Grateful Dead, Billy Strings, etc). We play with a great groove, sharp instrumentals, and smooth vocals at quiet cocktail hours to boisterous parties, from living rooms to sound stages, and everything in between. We’d love to play for you!

The Hogmires were the perfect addition to our summer garden party! They sounded amazing and required minimal set up. They were also very responsive and punctual. All of our guests had great things to say, and we appreciated having them at our event!!

October 15, 2025Incredibly talented duo that went above and beyond!
We hired Alex and Dan for my mom's 70th birthday party. I just cannot say enough about how great they were. They were professional, punctual, and massively talented musicians. They brought all their own gear, and sounded great in my mom's living room. They played an amazing set, and everyone was so impressed with their musical ability. My mom is a huge bluegrass fan, and they really made her whole night. They talked to all the music fans at the party, and were so warm and friendly with everyone. For our daughter’s wedding, we wanted to get a bluegrass band since she loves this kind of music. On our first views of the Hogmires videos, we just knew they were the perfect fit! From the time we booked, to the night of the wedding, there was open communication and support. On the wedding night, the setup was seamless. Everyone loved their music too. These guys are also really cool humans 🩷
We plan on seeing them again soon.

About
The Hogmires, (est. 2015), are a Mid-Western stringband formed in Chicago by Guitarist, Dan Spielman and Mandolinist, Alex Greenberg with the welcomed addition of bassist, Dan Kristan in 2021. Their sound is firmly rooted in Bluegrass with branches of Classic Country, Old-Time, Western Swing, modern jams, and more. With deftly picked instrumentals, powerful singing, and the most natural groove, The Hogmires make a big old sound, whether playing as a duo or quintet - which features a variety of Chicagoland’s finest musicians.
Additional booking notes
Highly flexible. Indoors or outdoors (preferably above 60° unless a heater can be provided). We can play acoustic only, provide small amplification, a PA, or line into a house system.
