Bring a gentle, funny puppet show to your next gathering! 30-minute shows followed by simple puppet-making or puppet-play. Margaret's shows are best for ages four and up.
NOTE: Margaret will debut a new show for ages 4 to 6 this summer, tentatively called "Taking Turns."
Margarets' puppet show was a hit!! Our children have a disability and their attention span is low, she had them all into it. I would hire her again.
Response from Margaret Moody Puppets:
Thanks! I appreciated the help from the groups’ assistants, especially with puppet- making.
I hired Margaret for an interview and she was simply amazing! Very classy, wonderful attitude, wide and beautiful tuneful voice and very smart in handling the discussion. The interview took more time than expected, as the production team were fixing the lights and microphones, but she kept her good mood all the time. I will absolutely hire her again in the future.
Margaret is a warm considerate person and great with children. Her puppet show for our 4 year old daughter's birthday party was a hit! She clearly is an expert in her craft. It's hard to believe there was only one person behind the stage with the various voices, puppet animation and synchronized music. The children also quite enjoyed the puppet making activity after the show. I wouldn't hesitate to hire Margaret again.
Response from Margaret Moody Puppets:
Margaret was lovely to work with and the puppet show and puppet making activity after was the perfect amount of entertainment for the 6-7 year olds at the party. The Matilda puppet show that she performed was funny and engaging and parents loved it too. I had many parents ask where I found her. Thank you Margaret for a wonderful show!
We had an excellent experience with Margaret Moody! Kids loved the puppet show and puppet making. Would highly recommend her services!
We had Margaret come to our daughters 5th birthday party. She performed a very nice puppet show. All 8 kids were mesmerized by the show, but the real hit came afterwards with the puppet making! The children loved that, she brought all the materials and taught them to make their own! Then, the children performed their own puppet show. It was lovely!!!! Margaret was very sweet with the children and accommodating. Also, she came to our party during a snow storm, so really really grateful for that!!
Loved everything about Margaret. Friendly, flexible wonderful storyteller. Such a reasonable rate as well!
What to Expect
My shows are lively and gentle -- a badger helps fairies build a playground; a muddy little pig decides to take a bath; a young cow struggles over whether to share cookies with his friend.
Before each show I introduce myself and some of the puppets so that children know who is behind the puppet stage. Shows last around 30 minutes, followed by time to play with soft fabric puppets or make simple ones with paper and yarn. I provide materials and clean up.
My shows work best in small spaces because my puppets are small. I can perform in party spaces and restaurants if there is a designated, quiet area.
I'm a puppeteer and mother of 3 living in Arlington, Massachusetts.
Since the late 1980s I've performed in schools, museums, libraries and parties, both on my own and with two troupes -- Galapagos Puppets and Dream Tale Puppets. My children, who are now in their teens and 20s, taught me that children want to touch and make puppets so I like to include time after the show for puppet-making or puppet-play.
I love the way two hands with puppets can tell a lot of stories!
Additional Booking Notes
My stage is the size of a loveseat -- 4' across, 5' high, 5' deep.
I need access to electricity for music, and microphone (when needed). I will bring a sound system and simple stage lights.
Most of my shows are indoors. I enjoy performing outdoors if my stage can be protected from wind and water.
Please allow me access to the performing area an hour in advance to set up my stage and sound equipment.

Influences & Inspiration
I studied traditional Taiwanese puppetry (Chang Chung Hsi, called 'theater of the palm of the hand') with a master in Taiwan. In this style of hand puppetry, puppets can flip, fly and run, as well as walk naturalistically and humorously. I try to bring the liveliness and intricacy of Taiwanese puppetry into all my shows.
