About
Located in the village of Point Edward and performing as ‘macsmusic’, Ken McLachlin has been playing, writing, teaching and recording music for over 35 years.
After several years of garage band experiences in the late 80’s, he founded an acoustic, traditional Celtic-folk band called Celtic Offspring (1993 to 2003). The band played hundreds of shows from the east coast of Canada and the U.S., throughout Ontario and the mid-western United States.
The band recorded three CD's, a music video and was featured on many media outlets including CMT, CTV, Global television, CHIN and CBC local and national radio programs.
Ken's original song, Beneath the St. Clair, was written & recorded in 1997 and told about the first full-size subaqueous railway tunnel built in North America. Opened in 1891, the tunnel linked Sarnia, ON to Port Huron, MI.
Ken's song has been featured on CBC radio programming since 1997, and as recently as 2017.
Around 2007, Ken returned to his solo, acoustic folk roots - where it all began him, enjoying song writing, recording & performing his own brand of Canadian Folk music.
His original songs make reference to his hometown region, others capture insightful life moments, and all reveal a perspective that reflects a lifetime of experiences.
Ken includes cover songs in his shows by Gord Lightfoot, Valdy, Neil Young and John Prine among others, but with an overall preference for Canadian artists and songs.
Keeping shows somewhat close to his southwestern Ontario home, Ken seeks out smaller, intimate venues, coffee houses, house concerts, folk clubs and the like to share his music and stories with others.
With three solo albums to his credit, ‘Been There, Done That’ (2021) and ‘Folk From Home’ (2024) and ‘Winter Is Here’ (2026), more new music is always in the works. As time allows, Ken has been writing & recording from his home studio with plans already in the works for a fourth album.
“Making music has always been a big part of me for as long as I can remember and the one, big constant throughout my life. It’ll end when I do.” – Ken McLachlin (macsmusic)
