music to the ear

Lem performed at our church or to properly phrase that would be that he shared his
God given gift. It was a pleasure and a comfort to be his audience. Lem presented history of Spirituals and effortlessly performed spirituals while playing both the guitar and banjo. Lem is performing blues songs tonight at our Art Pavillon here in Rhinelander.

Lem began his musical career in graduate school as a guitarist and vocalist in Paradise lost and Regained a work created by Dr. Eva Jessey—the acclaimed choral director for George Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess. Lem also appeared with (link hidden)ssey in a CBS “Special Segment” and became a soloist in the Dr. Eva Jessey Choir before embarking on his solo career.

Drawing upon his experience with Dr. Jessey and his background in contemporary music, Sheppard created a unique performance style and a vibrant brand of acoustic music that bridges the gap between folk and contemporary music He has the ability to move seamlessly from; blues, jazz, spirituals, folk, and contemporary music. Audiences of all ages engage with Lem’s modern take on traditional music interspersed with folklore, storytelling, and history.
Lem also composed and performed the soundtrack to the PBS documentary Black White & Brown, has received awards from The Kansas Folklore Society as well as The Oklahoma Blues Hall of Fame and was a National finalist in the Telluride Acoustic Blues Challenge. Lem has performed in South Africa, toured Brazil, and performed at the Kennedy Center.
