KatieCat & Cain

We work closely, ahead of time, with the event planner and client to get a clear idea of what the event requires, including the appropriate attire, repertoire and presentation. We arrive one to two hours before the start of the performance to set up instruments, sound system and run a sound check before audience/guests arrive.
A standard performance is one hour sets followed by 15 minute intermissions. However, the format and timing of the performance can vary according to the requirements of the client and the event.

When KatieCat & Cain teamed up in 2007, the chemistry was immediately evident with the melding of two rich and diverse musical backgrounds.

Since the age of 15, John Cain has been delighting audiences all over the world with his versatile talent, playing several musical instruments, including piano, guitar, bass fiddle, accordion and harmonica.

He sings in 5 languages and performs a vast international repertoire. Cain is also an orchestrator, arranger and author. He is an Artist In Residence with the So Cal Jazz Society and a member of the Advocates For Classical Music, giving seminars to schools on behalf of the San Diego Symphony. Cain also arranges and conducts The John Cain Orchestra which performs big-band jazz shows featuring KatieCat. In addition to the KatieCat & Cain duo, Cain regularly performs with his jazz trio and as a one-man show and enjoys a loyal following.

KatieCat studied classical voice as an undergraduate at San Francisco State University and honed her vocal skills in a variety of Bay Area ensembles, including the Oakland Symphony Chorus. A chance invitation to join a jazz ensemble introduced her to the Great American Songbook and ignited her passion for jazz singing. She furthered her knowledge by attending The Jazz School in Berkeley, Ca. In 2005, she debuted as a jazz singer at the Purple Onion in San Francisco and has performed up and down the west coast since.

In 2010, the duo debuted The KatieCat & Cain Show, with music encompassing the best of many genres along with theatrical sketches and costume changes.

In 2015 they moved to south America where they performed extensively for The Jazz Society Of Ecuador. They eventually created their own performance venue "The Tangier Lounge" in the city of Cuenca, Ecuador. In autumn of 2018 they are relocating to New Orleans in the USA.

We have our own self-contained sound system. We use Bose L-1s. We have all our own mics, stands etc. If there is not an acoustic piano available we use an electric keyboard.
