Overview

Jazzsmith is a solo act using a very sophisticated system of percussion and synth instruments and vocals performing classic soul, jazz, pop, and R&B hits from the 70s 80s and 90s. The emphasis on sound is crucial, as a recording mixing and front house engineer for many groups Jazzsmith understands acoustics and whatever the occasion the volume and selection of material will be appropriate. The main instruments used are percussion based vibes, steel pan, and vocals, all played on an instrument created by Gerald Smith, Pintech and Alternate Mode (makers of the Drumkat) Whether you need a solo performer or a full 6 piece band Jazzsmith is your solution!

About

BIO INFO GERALD SMITH

Started playing drums at age 5 and played first professional gig at age 10 as a lead vocalist and drummer, played with many different bands throughout his career with varying styles such as, funk, R&B, rock, country, latin, gospel and jazz. Born in the south but raised on the west coast, Hawaii, Southern California, and Arizona. Attended Central Az College on a track and music scholarship. After touring with the college ensemble formed an R&B group in Arizona and began playing clubs. After 15 years of gigs got a job as an engineer/studio manager in Trinidad West Indies and worked with Top named artists, such as Izzy Stradlin (Guns N Roses) Toni Tony Tone’, Kamiko Yamashita (Japan), Kassav (Sony France) and many others. Joined the group Michael Boothman and Kysofusion ( RCA jazz) and they were the opening act for many artists such as Al Jarreau, George Duke, Wynton Marsalis, Tito Puente, Arturo Sandoval, Cassandra Wilson, and also performed with George Howard and Toni Tony Tone and Helen Baylor in Trinidad. Returning to the U.S. joined the smooth jazz group Indigo City for a few years and then formed Jazzsmith and played many jazz festivals with the most notable being the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. Designing a unique instrument with the help of Alternate Mode, (the makers of the Drumkat), and Pintech Jazzsmith has created an instrument that is different and exciting to watch. The instrument combines drumsticks and electronics using all percussion sounds with the ability to play wind and stringed instruments also.
Gerald Smith is also a recording, mixing and mastering engineer as well as a front of house engineer for live performance groups such as Solo (produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis), Kelly Price, Tony Terry, Toni Tony Tone’, Ron Kenoly and many others, this experience is most helpful because as a performing musician the sound of his performance is critical because of the different types of performances he can do.
Corporate functions where appearance and volume are crucial, dinner engagements for that perfect ambience, and concert for that high-energy in your face performance. Whatever the Jazzsmith has that perfect fit for your function.
